Words You've Only Read And Never Heard

Has anyone ever come across a word that they've seen in print countless times but never heard spoken aloud? And then realised they've been saying it wrong in their head the whole time.
This happened recently on some cookery programme when they were talking about the fruit Persimmon. They all pronounced it 'PER-simmon' while I've always thought it was 'perSIMMon'.
Same with Gypsophila (aka Baby's Breath). All my life I've pronounced it 'GYPsophila' but a colleague kindly told me it's 'gypsAWphila'.

My brother read the whole Harry potter series pronouncing Hermione as Her-me-one. Grin

I once ordered the hort-dee-or-veres in a Chinese takeaway. Confused

@SummerHouse a school friend years ago told me about the heroine of a book she was reading called 'Penny-lope'.
My mum used to call hors d'ouvres as 'horses' doovers' for a laugh, but did it a function once and was looked upon with pity by people who thought she didn't know how to pronounce it.
