I feel a bit sorry for Eamonn Holmes today

I am not the biggest fan of EH&RL presenting This Morning but the poor man has chronic pain and yet he's turned up and is even doing a phone in on it. He's not sleeping at night or anything. Sad

Chronic pain is ghastly, poor bloke.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 11:41

He must really not want to be there. What a trooper though, he says he's waiting for an MRI scan. I think he had hip replacements in the last few years too.

Hmm as someone who suffers with chronic pain myself (lupus, Addison’s, sjorgens, pituitary tumour) sometimes keeping busy and just carrying on despite the pain is actually helpful, especially if you feel you’re helping others with similar issues. It’s better than sitting at home in a chair all day just focusing on the pain.

Yes, I get that, a relative who suffers with terrible back pain is actually more comfortable moving about at work than sat down at home. I feel for EH he's on show on camera. Ruth had to explain he wasn't back from having a wee because it takes him so long.

After the break there's a piece about eating human flesh. Oh dear. Sad

Aww I like Eamonn. Poor fella, sympathies to all those in chronic pain.

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 11:47

He could just have a sick day if it's too bad?

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 11:49

I think you are right but he appears to not have wanted to. He's had no sleep and he's presenting a live TV show for 2.5 hours.

It comes over as him trying to just plough on and get on with it rather than letting the side down.

PandaFluff · 05/04/2021 11:50

@Sparklingbrook I hope he isn't being pressured to come in if he's in too much pain. There are no prizes for pushing through when things get too tough.

Yes, I wonder if it's because he didn't want to let Ruth down? I would fully expect there to be standbys ready to step in every single day but he must have made the decision and hopefully he can rest later.

I’m waiting on two knee replacements- I’m 55 and in pain most of the time- now have swollen foot as I’m walking in s as n odd way- it is better to just keep going.I use crutches which tbh get in he way-still work but at end of the day I just want to cry/ tried all sorts of pain killers- been in waiting list way over a year and got a slot for the op end of January and it got cancelled. I manage by wearing headphones and listening to music and audio books at home and I walk the dogs half he everyday but now my son helps too. People wouldn’t know really I was in pain-I feel so sorry for him and hope he gets diagnosis and treatment soon. If u win the lottery I will pay £30000 to get new knees!!

doitwithlove · 05/04/2021 12:01

He is a worker as he has shown in his telly career, this is the biggest reason he is on the show today.

I feel sorry for both RL & EH as he is clearly in pain and on a short fuse due to pain and lack of sleep/movement. Hope he gets sorted very soon 🧡

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 05/04/2021 12:02

Its horrible. I suffer from chronic pain but still go to work full time. If I didn't I'd just go to bed to die and never get up again.

Steptoeshorse1965 · 05/04/2021 12:08

Oh so true, all that unrelenting graft he does, must be so very hard for him. Hugs.

Kezzie200 · 05/04/2021 12:10

There's no way they won't have stand ins. Not during a pandemic!

He probably just wants to work and not give in. I hope they can sort it quickly, whatever.it turns out to be. My husband was worse in that he couldn't move and it turned out to be a slipped disk. Horrible but not life threatening. I really thought it has to be really really serious. I hope it turns out to be something like that.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 12:13

Of course, I am not suggesting he's doing this because he had no choice! He could have quite easily said he can't and no doubt Rylan/Alison Hammond/Davina or whoever would have been in. The fact is he did come in.

Love and hugs to everyone who is experiencing chronic pain.

I developed a status migraine in November 2019. It waxed and waned but took nearly 4 months to bring under control. I still suffer now, a bad month can be as high as 15 migraine days, only 6 of which I can medicate. But things are moving in the right direction for me and there is real hope I will get them completely under control.

I genuinely can’t imagine (or maybe don’t want to imagine Sad) what it’s like for all the lovely people stuck with their conditions.

It’s one of those things that happens to someone else, until it happens to you.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 12:25

Yes I agree @TheSockMonster, it's one of those things that to fully appreciate how awful it is you have to have experienced it. The assumption is that a few painkillers and you'll be right.
My relative found that that not all painkillers act on all pain and there's lots of trial and error, and of course the painkillers come with their own side effects.
The nearest I have had I think is very painful joints (knees mainly) after the birth of DC1, and nothing seemed to touch it. I do get migraines which are painful but thankfully over quite quickly.

Chronic pain must be horrendous...having worked with Eamonn in the past, nothing would stop him going on air.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 05/04/2021 12:44

Good on him for turning up and I hope he gets better soon.

Perhaps by doing so it sets an example to those snowflakes who miss work for the slightest excuse (we've all had those at work), or to those who expect everything to open for their convenience on Sundays and Bank Holidays but would never work evenings, weekends and bank holidays even once a year themselves.

I see you suddenly found something to start a thread about today - is it because someone, a couple of hours ago, mentioned certain people don't/rarely start threads but are always on other threads? Grin

By the way, no work today?

I did! Grin I actually felt a bit sorry for EH and I was waiting for DH to come back with essential supplies.

I think it's gone ok TBF, all good replies. No arseholes.

Not back in work til Wednesday.

Yes I noticed (except for me I think Wink ) - must be a relief each time that happens with safe topics Grin.

Enjoy your break.

Hopefully not recipe ideas, or has the whole pandemic situation taken a turn while I wasn't paying attention?
