Cold sores and periods

Roarsomemore · 05/04/2021 09:59

I've been getting cold sores monthly and worked out they happen about a week before my period. They seem to come up the morning after poor sleep. I'm 40 and this has been happening on and off for roughly 3 years. Anyone else noticed similar? If so, did anything work for you?

I did previously have aciclovir prescribed but only a small supply. I have also tried l-lysine and can't say that it worked.

Although cold sores seem very minor they do get me down as I have to be very aware when I have them to avoid spreading them to family. So any ideas gratefully received.

Hi OP, Nuts, coffee and chocolate around period times set it off for me - look at Argentine and Lysine connection. Apart from that the only thing that works for me is the acyclovir - talk to your GP and also herpes.org.uk/
They are brilliant on advice for this!
