Boris 5pm announcement - Easter Monday

Itsalonghaul · 05/04/2021 09:10

Boris is going to update us on the reopening of pubs, shops and foreign travel today at 5pm.

Any thoughts or changes he is likely to make?

Countries we can visit from May the 17th? Or no travel at all.

Long as I can keep my hair appt in a few weeks there’s nothing he can say to upset me Easter Grin

Yes to pubs (outside) and shops. Offered 2 x lateral flow tests per week if you want them. Traffic light system for travel but no announcement of the countries would be my guess. I did read yesterday that travel to a 'green country' isn't 'go, have a lovely time, do what you like' - I think you still have to have a negative test before departure so that's a risk with the DC as obvs they won't be vaccinated.

Think he'll also say something about 'Covid passports' including the test events that they're running.

Think he will be keen to say that the Covid passports won't be introduced until most/everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated. Will very much want to present it as NOT nanny state/big brother in nature.

Let's see at 5!

I am not expecting anything different to what we already know.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 05/04/2021 09:17

Confirmation of what has already been announced, no real answers to any questions, and the BBC being tame in what they ask. April 12th being the next stage, don't book holidays abroad yet.

Those appearing alongside being embarrassed by his stupid comments at some point and having to try to correct him or hide it.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 05/04/2021 09:21

Is parliament in today? It’d be weird, on an Easter Monday.

If not, it won’t be any different, as he promised to “update” them first.

But the times & the FT reckoned yesterday that he’d be officially announcing the idea of vaccine certificates for sports events and festivals and nightclubs etc, some bluffer around foreign holidays with no real commitment yet, and then confirming everything scheduled for next week can happen but we need to stay alert and attend our vaccine appointments.

They’ve been spot on so far.

Cookerhood · 05/04/2021 09:23

It's all been leaked anyway, there's unlikely to be anything substantially new.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 09:33

I definitely won’t be tuning in live, I’ll wait until the summary.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 05/04/2021 09:45

It's always drip fed into the media in advance.
Traffic light system for foreign travel. Which will mean a summer of frothing from people who go to Spain, Greece, France or wherever and then are told they have to isolate on return. Or new variants or whatever.
The only advantage we have in the UK is that we are a fucking island. Maybe leverage that?

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 05/04/2021 09:48

@TakeYourFinalPosition Mr Johnson deliberately will announce something when Parliament is not sitting. The House of Commons does not sit until April 13th, the day after the latest changes are likely to take effect.

Scrutiny is something Mr Johnson avoids at every opportunity.

Itsalonghaul · 05/04/2021 11:05

I am looking forward to knowing. So I will be tuning in, the first chance I get I really want to take a flight literally anywhere.

Also can't take much more of my hair looking like this!

Also can't take much more of my hair looking like this! but I thought we’ve known for ages than hairdressers open next Monday? There are signs up at all the ones I see. Fully booked I assume though. I booked a wax ages ago and it was hard to get a slot.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2021 11:43

I have an appointment at the hairdressers and to have facial/eyebrows/eyelashes done. I cannot wait.

Keepyourdistance000 · 05/04/2021 11:45

He'll confirm what we already know. Hairdressers, gyms etc to reopen next week, foreign travel still under review, vaccine rollout going well etc.

He might surprise us all though by announcing an early end to all restrictions Grin
