Mum in hospital with bleed on her brain. Waiting for a phone call and can't sleep

Hi,

My lovely mum who's in her late 60's had a bad headache today, she then went to the bathroom and vomited and fell unconscious. My poor dad felt that something was up so he went to check on her and found her.

Because of Covid we can't be with her. She's been moved to another hospital. And they said they might put her on a ventilator.

Just so worried and I can't sleep :(

Also knew a lady who had 2 aneurysms years apart. Met her when the 2nd one was happening. She was aware of the signs, was promptly operated on, made a complete recovery and returned to work after a few weeks. Have lost touch after that.

Handhold Thanks

Hope the surgery has gone well and you get an update soon on your Mum.

Thinking of you and hoping for good news soon Flowers

Still no news, I guess if it will take 8 hours then that's why :(

For those with experience, did your relative experience a loss of moment in limbs and then regain this? It's just that she can't move her legs or left arm so I'm also worried about that.

Im getting married in August and just want everything to be ok.

Sending hugs.

Feeling pain is a good thing. It means they're responding to stimuli.

Medievalist · 05/04/2021 09:59

If it's any consolation, my dad had similar aged 72. He lived until 88 and died of something completely unrelated.

Yes he experienced loss of movement, speech, balance but recovered them all.

Sending love and positive thoughts to you and your dm Thanks

A friend of mine had a aneurysm 26 months ago, she had gone to a mutual friends house to do some gardening, she left to go home, when after a few minutes other friend noticed her car was still on the drive, she came out the house and found her face down between 2 cars..

She was operated on and had a lengthy hospital stay, physio for legs and movement
Operation on one eye..

However although she has a little problem with her memory, she is almost back to her old self.

I work in the community with people who have had similar experiences. Most have been in a coma and near death at some point. The things that will never cease to amaze me are:

-The amazing things that neurosurgeons and their teams can accomplish and

-The ability of the human body and spirit to heal and adapt.

Frownette · 05/04/2021 11:50

Wishing you and your family all the best

I had an brain aneurysm 20 years ago - it was clipped during surgery.

I was poorly for a few weeks after the operation. Once I was able to sit up etc I had physiotherapy in hospital to learn how to walk again- weaker one side. But overtime I improved - I was back to work slowly after 4 months and full time a few months later.
Human bodies are amazing it needs to time to heal. Only my Mum who knows where my scar is can ‘see’ it.

I hope your Mum is doing ok Flowers

@elmo311 I hope your mums through surgery and recovering well and that you’ve been able to get some rest Flowers

Ratched · 05/04/2021 17:14

Elmo, I have no direct experience of what you are going through, but I do know the fear and misery of having a parent in surgery, and that mind numbing wait.
Take very great care of yourself x

Sorry to hear about this OP. I know I’m late to the thread but this happened to my Nan at 75 and she’s still here almost 15 years later so I hope your mum will be the same.

userintgerain · 05/04/2021 17:28

How's your mum doing? Been thinking of you today x
