Weighted blanket for anxious 6yo

DS(6) has always been a poor sleeper and generally a high-strung and slightly anxious child. It often takes him a long time to fall asleep at night and he wakes early and dislikes sleeping alone. I also tend to be an insomniac and a bit of a hothouse flower and I've recently got a weighted blanket and seem to sleep deeply and more easily underneath it. Anyone tried a weighted blanket for a similar child and/or has any brand recommendations? No indications of SEN, he's just inherited my rather intense temperament.

Hi OP can I ask you the blanket you bought? I have a DD 6 who is autistic and we have some difficulties with her sleep. She also shares a bed with one of us and has recently taken to burrowing herself into us all night long as she seems to feel the need to be roughing one of us while she sleeps.
I'm glad your DS is sleeping better with his blanket and I hope it continues for you.

Meant touching not roughing!

Well I haven't bought him one yet but I'm sleeping better under mine. My instinct says he'd benefit from one but they are not cheap so I thought I'd investigate.

I bought myself a Simba Orbit after reading a recommendation article; it's more or less adult single sized though. I'd need to get him a different, children's brand.

I’ve recently bought my 6 year old one a child’s weighted blanket from Etsy and he loves it , sleeps under it every night .

Csn you borrow one to try it out?

ScarfaceCwaw · 05/04/2021 12:15

Well that one's definitely cheaper than mine! Smile I could give it a try, although it seems heavy. DS is only about 18kg.

John Lewis stock kids versions, they also do marvel and frozen prints as well as this Toy Story one. Worth a punt I'd say.

I noticed that they had them in Tesco this week ( big Tesco extra with the homeware section ) . I think they were about £30 for kids ones / £50 for adults

I’ve seen kids weighted blankets in Aldi too
