Boring fridge cleaning thread

Sorry in advance for the mundanity, but...

How often do you clean out your fridge? I'm talking proper, "take everything out, clean inside thoroughly, put stuff back in" cleaning.

I'm trying to be more organized/less of a slob and am making a rota.

Thanks

Probably 2 or 3 times a year. But spills are cleaned straight away and I wash out the salad/veg draws probably every month or so.

LoudNowSing · 04/04/2021 20:01

Oh, right.

I was thinking every second week sounded like something a proper grown-up would do.

I can totally get on board with every few months though. Grin

Usually every month or so but mainly because I think there is some kind of blockage in the tube so the bottom keeps flooding so I have to take the drawer out and remove the water so might as well clean the drawer and shelves at the same time. I’d probably do it less otherwise Grin

Once a week on the morning of my shopping delivery.

Fortnightly.

I’m in the once or twice a year camp. Will wipe spills of course but that’s plenty.

Quornflakegirl · 04/04/2021 20:26

A thorough clean once a month but I wipe the shelves inside the fridge every week.

Elouera · 04/04/2021 20:28

About every 2mths-3 for a deep clean of everything. I clear out the crisper drawer slightly more often and wipe the shelves down when needed.

I always line the crisper drawer with paper kitchen towel. It easier to see if moisture is building up, a squishy veg has gone off and just easier to take the paper out as a liner when I clear it all out.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 04/04/2021 20:30

Less than once a year. Wipe up spills when they happen, so it generally looks alright. Hasn’t killed us off yet, anyway.

Huh. Too much variety in replies! Could you not consolidate yourselves into some definitive answer please ? Grin

About twice a year like previous posters. Would clean up a spill obviously but only do the entire fridge about once every six months.

CrochetyCrochet · 04/04/2021 20:49

I'm in the couple of times a year camp for the full 'everything out' clean.
It's a tedious job and I have a salad drawer has to be coaxed through a weird limbo dance to get it out and in again so I always have to steel myself.
But I love it when I'm done. I go full on Sleeping With the Enemy and arrange all my jars with the labels to the front.

slooowdaysinlockdown · 04/04/2021 20:56

Once a year if it's lucky. It's never messy/sticky though

M0rT · 04/04/2021 20:56

Probably fully about once a month when it's nearly empty and I've a big shop coming. Every week wipe shelves and clean out salad drawers.
I think you can usually smell if your fridge is bad really so maybe try make it a routine once a month/two months to use up nearly everything and clean it before doing a shop?
If it's nearly empty it's not that big a job.

DareIask · 04/04/2021 21:20

Salad box at the bottom every time I do a big shop... clear out the stuff that's gone past it's best and make it ready for new stuff

Shelves and door shelves about monthly

Just moved out of a house we lived in for 5 years. Cleaned the fridge when we left so.... every 5 years? Grin

pastabest · 04/04/2021 21:36

Probably 4-5 times a year.
