Can’t believe it - I’ve finally done it!

I’m (just) in the healthy BMI range for the first time in over 10 years!

Still got a few pounds to go until I’m in the comfort zone, but that was my first target, and I’ve blooming got there!

Thrilled. And it’s largely down to MN and some great advice I got on a thread I started back in September last year.

Thank you, MN!

@Gerla

Well done! Slowly and surely is the way to go. *@igotdemons* you've lost 42kgs??! That's amazing.
@Gerla Yes, I had a LOT to lose (unfortunately) but I’ve lost most of that in the last year. Still can’t quite believe it myself! ☺️

That's fantastic, op. Very well done indeed Smile

@NoLactose

  1. Don’t drink alcohol. It messes with your blood sugar and your decision-making.
  1. Calculate your TDEE online and aim for a 4-500 daily calorie deficit.
  1. Look after your head. Download the Calm app, do the guided meditations, get enough sleep.
  1. Keep a daily journal. I use the Way of the Tortoise Happiness Journal. Just five minutes at the beginning and end of the day to set your intentions and review how it went. It helps instil good habits and find out why you might have had a bad day.
  1. Remember you won’t have put weight on after one bad day so there’s no need to give up. This is a lifelong lifestyle change, not a diet, so there’s no wagon to fall off. It’s just life.
  1. Find an exercise you love, or at least one that you can tolerate. But it helps if you know yourself. For example, I’m a complete lone Wolf. I run, but Park Run and running clubs just don’t work for me. I compete with myself, I’m not interested in anyone else’s personal bests. Same with swimming - I got a wetsuit and swim outdoors, to be out in nature and getting the headspace. I also do yoga and HIIT DVDs in my bedroom. It just works for me.
  1. Find out what foods you need. I absolutely thrive on carbs and feel sick and wobbly if I try to eat low carb. Nothing is off-limits, so long as you stick with your calories.
  1. Don’t eat your MFP exercise calories back.
  1. Get a Fitbit and rack up as many zone minutes a day as you can.
  1. Weigh yourself every day. Controversial, but it keeps you in control, and you learn to understand your fluctuations so you don’t feel discouraged.

  2. Have a weekly official weigh-in day where you record the date, your weight that day, how much you’ve lost that week, and how much you’ve lost in total. It gives you a real boost to see the numbers representing your efforts.

  3. Have an item of clothing that you want to slim into and try them on every half stone or so you lose. The feeling when you finally do that zip up is fantastic!

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head! Good luck!

Aw, op. I don't like Number 1 Sad

LunaNorth · 04/04/2021 22:11

It’s just what worked for me, but I was drinking a lot, and every day.

OP posts:
GreyhoundG1rl · 04/04/2021 22:12

No, of course I know it's part of it. Just wish it was easier!

LunaNorth · 04/04/2021 22:28

I read something on here that really resonated with me and really, really helped.

A poster said something like, yeah, losing weight is hard. But being overweight is hard. Clothes not fitting is hard. Hating photos of yourself and feeling self-conscious is hard. Beating yourself up for eating badly and therefore feeling crap so eating even worse is hard.

So, choose your hard. But only one of them will end well.

Congratulations OP!! I’m so proud of all you’ve achieved with your hard work but I’m also pleased you posted as it’s inspired me to get back on it. I recently put on 2 stone went on a diet and put on another stone so I’m 3 stone heavier and have given up. But this is what I do I yo-yo diet because I crash diet and then give up. I am going to try everything you have suggested thank you!

itsgettingwierd · 04/04/2021 22:34

No 5 8 10 11 and 12 I do.

No 1 I don't drink anyway!

Love the others. Great things for me to take on board to keep me on my merry way.

Thanks for the tips

LunaNorth · 04/04/2021 22:34

@toocold54 you can really do this. It’s really all in the head. Good luck!

22lb is amazing! Well done op. I was quite daunted by the weight of our lamb joint today ... just over 5lb. It seemed a lot to me. And you've lost more than four times that, quite an achievement!

someoneiou · 04/04/2021 22:44

Amazing OP 👏🏼 what an inspiration!!

seriousandloyal · 04/04/2021 22:54

Well done you, great achievement!

atracurious · 04/04/2021 22:55

Congratulations OP! That's a fantastic achievement SmileThanks

Veryverycalmnow · 04/04/2021 22:58

This is the inspiration I needed. Thanks OP

Veryverycalmnow · 04/04/2021 22:58

And big congratulations!

Bloodybridget · 04/04/2021 23:36

Huge congrats to @LunaNorth and everyone else who's getting back into shape. Luna, you're so right that everything about being overweight is hard (except the eating of course which is all too easy!). That was a very thought-provoking post.

This is so true. And of all the things that are hard about being overweight, the only thing you have control over is losing it.
LunaNorth · 05/04/2021 11:58

I feel like I accepted all the hard things about being overweight as somehow they were all I deserved.

I had to change my head before I decided that, actually, I might deserve better.
