How on earth did I get a cold?

It’s been years since I’ve had a cold
No-one that has been to my house has a cold
Not been to any shops or had any deliveries
I took my dad to the dentist the other day, all masked up
I’ve tested twice, negative
In normal times, you wouldn’t really think twice about where the cold came from, but when we’re all supposed to be vigilant, it makes you really think!

In the height of lockdown last year me, 3 year old DD and baby DS had colds and we hadn’t been anywhere in weeks or seen anyone. DH had been doing the shopping and he didn’t have a cold and that was the only contact with the outside world. I’ve wondered if DH might have had an asymptotic cold (not sure that even exists?) to have passed it on to us or somehow in the shopping which I’d been quite sceptical about when people were washing their shopping.

Are you sure it’s a cold and not hay fever?

I have chronic hay fever, nearly year round, it’s very different

My husband had a chest infection a month ago; the only time he's been out in public was in January for his first Covid jab???

Rhinovirus has ticked up recently in the respiratory illness stats, I suspect linked to the opening of schools again. We’ve all had it, most of our kid’s friend’s families have had it too. I expect there’s been some spillover into the wider community. Could be from the dentist, could be a person who didn’t think they had a cold when you saw them.
