The news report of student unrest around racist policies and the head’s resignation have saddened me. here
So far from the Pimlico School I attended for 7 years in the 1980s, which celebrated it’s diversity and took great pride in the 40+ mother tongues.

The junior school I attended (not in London) was an excellent one, then after the head retired and so did two of the senior teachers (at normal retirement age), the new head was a disaster and the school was in special measures within six years.

A school can move a long way in a few years, and no wonder OP you feel saddened.

Yes, I appreciate that things can, and do, change in time, Headteachers change and so on. It was such a good example of how to do comprehensive, multicultural education well, with opportunities everywhere and a not-too-bad academic record. The new academy (in a new building) seems to be moving backwards in terms of inclusion, from a good starting position.

Why are you sad? A school with over 70% non-white pupils, that was failing has been taken over, had brand new buildings provided and a top head appointed. It has gone from failing to outstanding, thus greatly improving the education and life chances of the pupils.

There doesn't sound like there is a lot to be concerned about to me. You don't want to take any notice of the media blowing up a spat about a flag.
