Songs that make you sob

I know there’s a thread about breakup songs, but reading it got me thinking about those songs that you just can’t listen to without crying.

For me it’s Disappear by Dream Theater, particularly the live version. I actually can’t even read the lyrics without tearing up. Embarrassingly I once heard it played in a pub and ended up having to hide in the toilets until my face was presentable again.

I don't think any have made me sob...maybe tear up a little if I felt sad already.

sandgrown · 04/04/2021 00:01

Puff the Magic Dragon !

Wishingwell75 · 04/04/2021 00:01

Mr Bo Jangles (not Robbie's swing version) It's the line "you see son I drinks a bit" that gets me.
Also, Keep your head up by Ben Howard - got me through a tough time but now reminds me of my brother who passed away.

Oh wow @scrappydappydo I forgot about that song - my DC's both sang that in a school play and I was bawling - as discreetly as you can in a school hall! Will have to listen to something else now so I don't think about the lyrics!😁
You are right @sandgrown - I always found it sad. People really love it though!
This is clearly not the thread for me - damn you perimenapause, not only can I not sleep but I have PMT 4 weeks a month!

I don't actually cry but feel close to tears when I hear Dance With My Father Again. Also, Walking in Memphis, affects me although I love it. I have another song that makes me cry for deeply personal reasons but I am working on it to try to make it positive.

French onion?
Harigold · 04/04/2021 10:17

Bright Eyes
Fields of Barley
Nothing Compares to You (because Sinead O'Connor cries in it remembering her mum which in turn reminds me of my mum losing her mum very prematurely and also crying at this song!)
