@Horehound @Bythemillpond

My dh has put a deposit in the cyber truck, although wtf he needs that for to go to Waitrose is beyond me Grin

Having a MAM in your life is like having a front row seat to some bizarre and fascinating nature programme!!

I love the cyber truck and will be getting one. You don’t have to be a man to appreciate something so whacky looking.

It will also get used as a truck and will earn its keep.

Anyone thinking they’ll be getting a Cybertruck in the UK might be in for a shock....

@spiceweasel79 there's always a risk but don't worry. Can almost taste your glee from here 🧐

I'm keeping an eye on this thread as am looking to lease an electric vehicle soon.

Those who did: was it easy to get a charging point installed on your driveway ?

I didn’t like the look of a charge point on the front of my house and couldn’t put it on the side. So I had an untethered Zappi installed in my garage. I then measured the distance between the point and where I park the car (a leased Tesla Model 3 shhhh!) on the drive and then ordered the appropriate length charging cable.

I then run the cable out to the car and close the garage door down on the cable. The door has a massive rubber sealing strip on the bottom, so it doesn’t damage the cable when shut.

I like the Zappi as it supports integration with solar and home battery systems.

Good tips, thanks both 👍👍

Not shocked at all. The widest legal vehicle you can have in the U.K. is 2m so anything exceeding that would need to be made smaller if they want to sell here.

VenusClapTrap · 12/04/2021 10:34

DontDrink and spiceweasel I don’t like the look of most chargers either - our house is very old in an olde worlde rural village, so I didn’t want some futuristic looking box with neon on it like some of them are! We installed an Andersen unit which has an oak front and integral hidden cable. Very subtle.

Goawaymuppet · 12/04/2021 10:37

This is why the government got rid of the grant to buy electronic cars - everyone was using it to buy Teslas!

Sittinonthesand · 12/04/2021 10:43

You very rarely see ‘old bangers’ any more. Growing up lots of people used to drive very well-used, bashed-up cars, now they are all immaculate!

Bythemillpond · 12/04/2021 13:12

Because old bangers wouldn’t pass the MOT and because it doesn’t make sense trying to keep an old car on the road as with lease deals it is more prudent to go for something that costs you £1500 per year than spend £1500 per year on repairs, the extra fuel, insurance and tax.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/04/2021 13:15

Old bangers generally cost a fortune in upkeep. They are also often less fuel efficient.
I could buy an ‘old banger’ outright and have to spend time and money on repairs and upkeep. Or I could lease a new, reliable, fuel efficient car and have it all sorted for me.

Klarajannsson · 12/04/2021 13:21

We have a charging point on the side of the house. It wasn't difficult because someone came and did it!

I don't care what car I have (the EV is DHs baby). But I had the money or could afford a lease I would absolutely buy a Tesla for the range, and the convenience of not having to stop and charge much. When you do have to, Tesla charging points are plentiful and reliable.
