I've noticed what seems to be every other car I've seen has either been a Tesla, a 20/70/21 reg car or both. Seems to be since covid more People have had new cars! Anybody else noticed this? I don't live in an affluent area

@BusySittingDown

Most of the Teslas I've seen are Model 3s (more "affordable" version) and they haven't been out long. Probably why you're seeing a lot of them now. They've been bought by people that couldn't afford a Model S or Model X.
I assume @BusySittingDown can't even afford a Model 3, hence the saltiness....

No, the reason you're only seeing new model 3's is that is all you can currently buy/lease brand new from Tesla UK. Go to their website and try to purchase a new S or X. You'll find delivery dates are currently 'some time in 2022' so kind of difficult to do.... Unless you want to buy 'used', urgh! Grin

My new car comes in 2 weeks will it be a 21 plate

cultkid · 05/04/2021 18:09

I was almost going to get a Tesla but then I just didn't want to do a big down payment

What down payment are people doing on one that is approx £300 pm

We have our own business so the whole BIK / personal lease thing is roughly the same

I got a SEAT atecca 6 weeks ago to try and save money but it's a pig to drive and I missed being down low / couldn't get kids in it etc it was destroying my back and shoulders and I fell out of it as well (am 5ft with long term issues)

Leased cars.

cultkid · 05/04/2021 18:12

Lots of cunty comments about leasing on Mumsnet

There really are. As if not wanting to buy a depreciating asset and quite liking having a new car every three years is something to be ashamed of.
cultkid · 05/04/2021 18:21

If you have a new car it's deffinitely cheaper

Just leased an a6 40tfsi s line 3 years with one month upfront for £342 pm

Tell me in 3 years that is more then the depreciation

Course it isn't!!!

And no stress of an old car

I have leased since my second car

Had some lovely cars

Doesn't mean you're broke shit with money or a flashy shallow prick

So frustrating

To get a high end car you usually need a big deposit, we have one and put 60K down on the lease.

Hollyhead · 05/04/2021 19:23

I’m not against leasing, I wouldn’t look down on anyone for doing it, my comment was just to show that it is expensive over a lifetime.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 05/04/2021 19:29

We lease our car. Just like we used to rent a house. It’s a perfectly valid choice.

Oh for heaven’s sake. I hate MN sometimes. Was that really necessary?
BusySittingDown · 05/04/2021 21:12

@spiceweasel79 Ha! I had a Model S a few years ago (2016) and it was a great car but in the end the range wasn't enough to cover the miles I needed at the time, as I was travelling up and down the country constantly and having to keep charging was a PITA. No saltiness here! 😝

Might go back to one one day as it was fab, although my current car is fine!

BusySittingDown · 05/04/2021 21:22

There are more charging stations around now than there were 5 years ago.

£60k? Are you leasing a McLaren?

@BusySittingDown Just seems like a rather snooty attitude to have towards people who haven't shelled out six figures on a car.

welshweasel · 05/04/2021 23:01

NHS here. Tesla costs me £260/month all inclusive of insurance and servicing etc. No brainer. Lots of Teslas round here. Assume mainly leased due to BiK tax breaks.

Mine is due for replacement at the end of the year. Won’t get another Tesla. Maybe the Merc EQC or the Audi E-Tron

vimtosogood · 05/04/2021 23:08

What annoys me is the model 3 is some impractical hatchback/saloon type thing instead of an estate that would actually be useful.

QueenPaw · 06/04/2021 00:53

Loads of leasing/PCP/finance etc
Most of the cars I deal with daily are financed or lease or company cars (Land Rover)

RoseMartha · 06/04/2021 08:07

No but then the street where I live the newest car is 2017. I dont generally pay attention to cars I see about the town etc.

LadyCatStark · 06/04/2021 08:10

I don’t understand why someone could be pissed off at someone owning a new car. Sounds like jealousy to me!

Springhat · 06/04/2021 08:10

We bought a Model 3 last year - massively fun to drive and round here lots of the Tesla owners smile and nod to each other. 😂

welshweasel · 06/04/2021 08:34

I just drove 5 minutes to nursery and saw 3 other model 3 Teslas, just to give you an idea of how popular they are - and that’s in semi rural Wales!

Saz12 · 06/04/2021 09:04

My, don’t people get overheated about... cars? It’s almost like marketing actually works.

We have a model S and with the addition of the frunk (front boot) and underboot, it actually has a bigger capacity than the volvo estate hybrid that was our alternative option. Two good size dogs plus luggage (we don’t travel light) plus passengers is easily doable! We love it.
