To irrationally HATE this word...

Delicious. I fucking hate it man, it irritates the life out of me. I could literally put my fist through a brick wall when people say it, especially if they emphasise on the L. Awful, ugly word that should be banned from the planet forever.

Any words out there that make anyone rage? I believe moist is quite unpopular. But nothing tops the D word for me! :-)

@Wotrewelookinat

‘Jab’ Hate it. It’s a vaccination or an injection. NOT A JAB. And breathe.
YES. I came on this thread just to say this. Don’t know why I hate it so much, but I do. I could take the US ‘shots’ over this.

A particularly awful development during this period is using it as a verb in sentences like ‘Just get everyone jabbed in the arm.’ AAAGGGGHHH. Obnoxious.

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 22:39

@henryhooversnose

Also erect and nom nom .
I've never before heard of 'nom nom'.
Mymymycorona · 03/04/2021 22:42

Referring to a baby as baby. What is wrong with "my baby" or "the baby". Even annoyed thinking about it 🤣

Wincarnis · 03/04/2021 22:42

“Making memories”
“Feeling blessed”
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

TheOldRazzleDazzle · 03/04/2021 22:45

Oh, yes, cuppa too. That thread the other day that repeated it hundreds of times was a bit nails on blackboard. Which also incorporated one of my other peeves - pop, as in pop round or pop in. I had this in my head for a few days:

BE KIND AND POP ROUND FOR A CUPPA!

Printed on a tea towel a la Keep Calm or delivered Stepford Wives style!

keepingmindful · 03/04/2021 22:48

Hun

Hangingover · 03/04/2021 22:49

Stomach.

There's one word that even just thinking about it makes my blood pressure go right up. Chillax.

No, just NOOOOOOO

B1rdflyinghigh · 03/04/2021 22:55

Peeps.
blue sky thinking.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/04/2021 22:56

Sumptuous.
Can't bear it!

Dontjudgeme101 · 03/04/2021 22:58

I dislike the word banter! People use that word to be downright nasty and say , it’s only banter!

JackieTheFart · 03/04/2021 22:58

I really hate it when pregnant women refer to their stomach. Your stomach is where your food goes after you’ve eaten it, it’s not where your baby is, it’s not synonymous with abdomen or even belly, either of which is fine when what you’re talking about is how big you are!

I’m also not a fan of hyperbole. In general, things are not amazing or stunning, people aren’t generally devastated or ecstatic, and should not be described as such. I have bought a nice cushion, it’s not stunning. I wasn’t devastated when my orchid died, I was mildly miffed as I thought I was looking after it well.

nopenotplaying · 03/04/2021 23:01

Bum - when referring to a nappy change
Hun - hate it
Lickle - it's little fgs
Plimsoll - just weird
Sprog - child

I'm sure there are more, a lot of stuff irritates me 🤣

Ugzbugz · 03/04/2021 23:04

When people requote something and say 'This' makes my blood boil.

And hidden gem is beyond annoying.

Puffinhead · 03/04/2021 23:05

@Ellieboolou33

Supper is a word that should be banned IMO
Totally agree with this.
Cokie3 · 03/04/2021 23:07

Grim. Originally, it means diabolical or dire, near death. Like the grim reaper. Most people on here use it without any understanding of the original word. Even something on here that is slightly unfortunate is 'grim'.

Oh, and 'sat'. I was sat. Say that aloud to yourself. It sounds like broken English. If you take out the 'was' it's ok, but 'was sat' does not even sound right. Does no one realise the word 'sitting' exists? E.g I am sitting (current tense)? Not, I 'was sat'?

Iheartmysmart · 03/04/2021 23:23

At the moment the word “safe”. Every other work email either starts with”I hope you are keeping safe” or ends with “stay safe”. Fuck off the lot of you before I stab you in the face with a fork.

Bookworm65 · 03/04/2021 23:27

Literally - only because it is so rarely used correctly,
obligated - sounds horrible - what's wrong with 'obliged'?

movies, and privacy, pronounced pryvacy.

jessstan2 · 04/04/2021 00:20

basically
totally

Nothing wrong with either word but they are over-used.

wsbts · 04/04/2021 07:04

The massive overuse of the word AMAZING put a microphone in front of someone and everything is AMAZING.

People who are unable to pronounce the Scottish word LOCH it is not lock locks are in canals.

SuperintendentHastings · 04/04/2021 07:12

Cookery. They say it on MasterChef all the time these days instead of cooking and it drives me up the fucking wall.

'Thats some amaaaaaazing cookery right there'. Fuck off Greg.
