What time to watch the Sunrise?

Last Easter I tried to get up to watch the sunrise. (I normally go the the early morning church service but that’s isn’t happening atm)

Well I got up for the time it said on my weather app but the sun was already up.

I found this website www.suntoday.org/ but I can’t work out what time I should get up for. Any help would be appreciated.

At the moment it starts getting light around 6, but actual sunrise (sun appears at the horizon) around 6.40.

My weather App shows 6.32. For this am. London. Later westwards earlier eastwards. I often get out for sunrise in rural areas - usually go to good vantage point for around 30 mins before stated time so can see the lightening. Good luck op.

BBC weather will give you sun rise for your location. There's quite difference, even in the UK - Pembroke is 20 minutes behind London for example.

Btw saw recent programme about Stonehenge - they had an expert on who was an ‘archaeological astrologer’ (think that was what his field is called?!) in effect he was able to point to the slight shift in the position of sunrise thousands of years ago as compared with now. Fascinated - hadn’t thought about orbit or tilt shifts - became central to alignment of a pit and whether it would have aligned with sunrise way back when.
Love love love stumbling across niche areas people are studying which I’d never thought about before.
Clue - sun rise is still east Grin

Thanks everyone,

I normally get up at 6 and walk the dog, I would have said it was light,

However sunrise here is 6.40. Just found the attached, I think I am wanting to be up for first light, looks like I have an early start tomorrow!

I think that is a lovely thing to do on Easter morning. Op. No help as you’ve found your time but just wanted to say that. Happy Easter 💐

I have had a lovely morning, I took the dog for a walk, we got to the car park and 5.10 and enjoyed a lovely walk as the night and stars faded and the light appeared over the horizon. On our way back to the car, the mist rolled in.

Thank you all for you help x

That looks beautiful op. I always think when I do odd hours things, how amazing it is that it’s all there doing that all of the time everyday. Those who do eg night shifts or night transport things or night sailing must have a very different perspective on things.
