Help me pick the right bike for DD 10 please

We are having a last minute hunt for a new bike for DD who is about to be 10.

Currently she rides an old 24" Halfords Apollo which she loves but the gears don't work and it's heavy meaning she lags behind her younger brother.

So DGP want to go halves with us on a new one for her.

Obviously stock isn't easy but where we have got most flummoxed is on size. The sensible thing is maybe to get a 26 so it will last but I am worried she may find it a bit of a stretch in which case that might be a mistake as we need her to be able to ride it this spring / summer.

Has anyone been in same boat and can advise please ?

She is 142 cm tall and inside leg is 65 cm .

Thanks if anyone can help we don't want to make an expensive mistake .

My 9yo has a 26. When she got it last summer, the guy in the bike shop refused to sell us a 24 as he said she'll outgrow it in a year. The 26 is a perfect size. Was probably your DDs size last summer, has yet to start puberty.
Hers is a Giant bike.

My 10 year old has just declared her 26" bike outgrown (it was a Ridgeback Dimension, really good value, about £350 but I could hang it on a hook well above my head or lift it with one hand). She rides an old small framed bike of mine now and she's not hugely tall, certainly not 150cm yet.
