Where has the humanity gone

Where has the humanity gone or kindness or just plain not being rude, this is the 4 time this has happened to me an elderly couple has screamed and shouted in my face that I am selfish and going to kill them and its my fault we are in lock down because I do not wear a mask (I HAVE A BADGE ON WHICH IS VERY VISIBLE I CARRY 2 INHALERS AND 2 EPI PENS) yesterday was the worst the staff and a few other customers intervened and they were asked to leave I was left so badly shaken up to the point now I have decided I will not be going in any shops (I was in for milk and toilet roll) I'm just so heartbroken that people think it's OK to behave this way.
I'm in my early 30s but look mid 20s and always on my own if this has anything to do with it I do try to explain my condition and show them what medication I have to carry I was to by a lovely customer to put everything away as I did not need to explain myself and I just want to thank her for being supportive but please if you think it is your job to ask people why they are not wearing a mask and they have a badge just leave them alone they are already terrified just walk past and carry on your day
Sorry this is so long thank you for reading

I am sorry you have been treated so badly OP. People are scared and nervous and react differently than they ever normally would I guess.Thats the only thing I can think of.My friend cannot wear masks for medical reasons and has been subjected to intense questioning and scrutiny quite unfairly too.She decided to buy one of those clear visor things that are not helpful in protection but it made her feel she was more accepted out in society. Its such a shame it has got to this state of affairs I think.

Saz12 · 02/04/2021 10:10

OP, you poor soul, that’s awful. I’m glad other customers and staff helped you, but what horrible people to be yelling at you re: mask.

2bunny · 02/04/2021 10:45

Thank you I do have a visor but with the way I breath It fogs up ridiculous fast I have accidentally bumped into someone as I couldn't see properly and was totally mortified lucky it was a lovely lady who understood

never any excuse for screaming in someone's face and I'm sorry that happened. The age of the screamers is not relevant - many younger people are shits too.

all you can do is minimise your shopping; plenty of people will help you. The local volunteer groups are still going.

fudgefox · 02/04/2021 12:15

If people are that scared they shouldn't leave their house. They shouldn't be screaming at and abusing people.

JamesAnderson · 02/04/2021 12:34

If they're that nervous of someone not wearing a mask they should distance even more

GlendaNorth · 02/04/2021 12:40

Aside from everything else already mentioned... They'd have been vaccinated anyway?!

SadFlower98 · 03/04/2021 00:12

Sorry OP Flowers

Wish I were there to stick up for you

I can’t believe how utterly thick these people can be. An embarrassment to themselves.

AdoraBell · 03/04/2021 00:17

You have a badge yes? In future if anyone does this again wave the badge in front of their eyes and ask if they can read?

I’m sorry this happened to you.

AcornAutumn · 03/04/2021 00:21

It's awful

I have a lanyard and it's scary going out

2bunny · 03/04/2021 11:28

My friends 21 year old DD has hole in heart complications etc and has been verbally attacked for the same thing despite wearing the lanyard. She wears a mask now ☹️

Weirdfan · 03/04/2021 11:45

I struggle to wear a mask (was attacked and anything over my mouth and nose makes me panic now) but I just about manage for short shopping trips. I wouldn't dream of saying anything to anyone not wearing one because I have no idea about their reasons. I genuinely don't understand people who can't comprehend that some people just can't wear a mask and I'm so sorry this happens to you OP, it's utterly unfair, unreasonable and unacceptable Flowers

CirqueDeMorgue · 03/04/2021 11:55

Well, you don't want to let people like that stop you from going out to buy loo roll, do you?

Bluebells32 · 03/04/2021 11:57

That's horrible, OP, i hope somebody spoke to them. Some people are just bullies and look for any opportunity to be abusive.

Stickytreacle · 03/04/2021 12:01

I think the types who just refused to wear a mask because they didn't want to have made this situation much worse for those wjo genuinely can't. People are genuinely scared, and it makes them react in ways which aren't the norm. There will always be people lacking in humanity, understanding and compassion. I think all we can do is feel sorry for them, and strengthen our resolve not to be discouraged, or worse still become like them.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 03/04/2021 14:42

People really need to chill the fuck out. This is getting ridiculous. (Them, not you, op)
Mindless puppets the lot of them

I agree. There are some utter idiots around. Fgs stop screaming at people and STAY INSIDE if you’re so frightened.

Flowers @2bunny I’m sorry you had to run into twats like that.

Fairyliz · 03/04/2021 14:53

This!
CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 03/04/2021 15:19

If only the people who genuinely cannot wear a face covering (a scarf will do this, a snook, a bandana or a visor) were those without one, I am sure you would have more understanding.

In Germany the numbers without a face covering when I was there in September were almost nil.
