No hot shower until June?

I live in a housing association property. Over the past few days my shower has been running boiling hot then freezing cold then boiling hot and so on. I rang up and was given a date of June 14th for someone to come and look at it. Then yesterday morning the water just ran cold no hot at all. So I rang up again and was told because I wasn't over 70 or dont have young children they couldn't change the date. I was told to have baths instead. I have a skin condition which means I can't be in water for too long. I told them this and was told they'd book me an urgent appointment. Have now been given a new appointment date...June 16th! So 2 days after first appointment.

Now I'm waiting to speak to somebody, again.

Would you expect to have to wait so long? I'm not in the position financially to get somebody to come out privately.

That’s ridiculous! But sadly not surprising with a Housing Association from my own experience. Look for their complaints procedure or email the customer service director and ensure you let them know about your medical condition.

Babdoc · 01/04/2021 09:16

Think I’d be tempted to tell them I would be subtracting the cost of a private plumber from my next rent payment....

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 09:18

If they haven't got anyone then they haven't got anyone. I expect Covid has reduced the amount of calls they can make and the list is getting longer. They are probably prioritising, and there will be people who have no means to wash at all or are vulnerable due to age etc

LaurieFairyCake · 01/04/2021 09:41

Is it an electric shower?

And doesn't run off the hot water tank ?

Thatwentbadly · 01/04/2021 09:42

For now you can fill a bucket with hot water and stand in the bath and pour jugs over yourself. Washing your hair will be more tricky.

Streamlinerose · 01/04/2021 09:43

Can’t you have a quick bath, like the same length of time you would have taken to shower? A quick dip and swoosh of your crevices doesn’t have to mean hours wallowing in the tub.

25yearsnhsworker · 01/04/2021 09:44

No I wouldn't expect to wait that long.
I have had no hot water for a week before.
Gilled a washing up bowl from the kettle placed it in the bath and used a plastic jug to wash down. Small amount of shampoo on hair so it didn't take much rinsing.

AmelieTaylor · 01/04/2021 11:06

No, I wouldn't expect someone in HA property to have to wait 10 weeks to get their Hot Water sorted out

I don't know how it works, sorry, but can you ring the council? Aren't they ultimately responsible for HA homed people?

Failing any help through HA/council could you ask the CAB if there's any help available?

Stoppissingonmyheather · 01/04/2021 11:10

Tell them there is now no water at all or it is coming out brown they will have to send an emergency plumber

AmelieTaylor · 01/04/2021 11:11

If you were my friend you'd be welcome to come & shower at mine & I haven't had anyone in the house for a year!, but it's easy enough to do it safely.

Good luck getting it sorted! No HE until mid June is ridiculous!! Skin complaint or not!!

If it was me I'd get the camping solar shower rigged up. Well worth it if you can afford to buy one, borrow one, cadge one of FB or something. You can fill them with hot water you don't need sunshine!

dementedpixie · 01/04/2021 11:12

It won't be an emergency as you can use the bath. What sort of bath taps do you have? Could you use those shower hoses that attach to the bath taps in the short term?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 01/04/2021 11:12

@Stoppissingonmyheather

Then when they get there and there's cold water flowing clear??

Acceptance of this is totally wrong.

There are plumbers who are available before then. The housing association needs to get more help in.

Doesn’t matter whether you are young and don’t have children, no hot shower for three months is completely unacceptable.

No advice OP but I am Angry on your behalf.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/04/2021 11:15

That's shit, but can you not just have a quick in and out Bath, it needn't take longer than 5 minutes.

SilenceOfThePrams · 01/04/2021 11:18

I can’t link to Amazon as my phone is being silly, but search for bath tap shower attachment. Under a tenner, plastic hose which attaches to the bath tap or taps and will let you have a hand held shower in the bath. Bit rubbish as you have to hold it so can’t just stand under it. But will do the job in the short term.

I agree it’s a ridiculously long time to have to wait though.

Sparklingbrook · 01/04/2021 11:24

I am not accepting it as such it’s just the way things are during a pandemic @1990s and OP has the means to wash.
Not being able to have a hot shower doesn’t mean you’ll be top of the list.
Around here you can’t get a plumber for anything for weeks (even pre pandemic) unless your house is about to flood.

www.argos.co.uk/product/2766177?clickSR=slp:term:bath%20shower%20tap:37:56:2 We got this while our shower being replaced.

LudoBear · 01/04/2021 11:28

They've now booked me in for May 12th but I'm on the cancellations list. I will get one of those shower attachments.

Its three months wait if your shower breaks and you have a bath in the property they tried making me wait three months before then I pointed out I didnt have a bath so they sent someone out to check then an inspector to make sure they were right THEN a plumber

Showers are not a priority in HA property's

🤣🤣 yes 🙄 because I had requested a bath be fitted and they said no so they came to check one hadn't been fitted without them knowing apparently they asked first guy if he was really sure there was no bath and he said unless she has one fitted elsewhere 🤔 I only saw the bathroom which caused confusion so they double checked it would have been cheaper to send someone to FIX MY SHOWER
