My dad's big birthday is coming up and I have NO idea what to get him.

He doesn't appreciate commemorative things and is quite practical. He is also teetotal, so booze is a no, obviously.

He loves cycling and has a spin bike, but cycling gear doesn't seem big birthdayish enough.

Suggestions would be so welcome! I am stumped.

An experience? Hot air balloon ride, car racing, anything like that.

I wouldn't buy the actual experience right now because of lockdown, but you can make a card saying what you are going to get him.

Does he have a garden? Loads of options if so.

Vouchers/tickets to a local attraction (gardens/house/steam train ride/museum)

What’s your budget?

I’m a practical type myself with a horror of anything commemorative. I’d love an experience so I think that would be a great idea.
I’d also be happy with something I do with one of my hobbies that I was covering but couldn’t justify the cost of
Otherwise what about something techy? What do cyclists use to listen to music while they ride? A go pro for his helmet. An amazing coffee machine if you think he’d like that. Anything that needs replacing eg tv?

Really lovely winter coat or boots? .

Depends how much you want to spend I suppose too.

Would he enjoying a cycling weekend away on a group tour type thing? Or does he have a cycling mate he'd enjoy a weekend with?

If the bike is compatible and he doesn't have something similar, a lifetime membership to one of the bike route apps like Kinomap?

TrainWhistleChoir · 31/03/2021 10:18

How about a magazine subscription - cycling world or similar? You could create a hamper and include it with other items to beef it up a bit.

My DH recently turned 40.

My sister bought him a ten minute chat with a goat.

A goat.

It beehhhed happy birthday to him and jumped and frolicked in the hay.

It was fabulous.
