Waitrose delivery experiences?

How is their food delivery going at the moment? Am thinking about trying them again as not loving M&S products on Ocado. But the last time I booked they cancelled on the morning of delivery, leaving me foodless with covid! And even pre-pandemic they were rubbish - arriving late, loads of substitutions etc.

Has anyone had any good experiences?

Waitrose deliveries have been an utter life saver for me since first lockdown.
I too gave up with Ocado’s M&S replacements for Waitrose products and was disappointed that so many M&S shop lines are not carried by Ocado.
I have had a weekly delivery from Waitrose since May last year (sometimes supplemented by Ocado for M&S products) and apart from one or two blips I have been really pleased. Plus they don’t charge for delivery over £40. Try them again! Like most of the supermarkets, with the increase in delivery numbers they have streamlined all their systems now.

I'm starting to use Waitrose because I prefer the food. And the service has been great too.

I can't book slots very often though

Estellelauder · 31/03/2021 11:08

I would love to swap from Ocado but they simply don’t have any slots in my area. I’ve filled in a survey to let them know but basically given up looking. Such a shame as there must be loads of Ocado customers that would be back like a shot.

SummerHouse · 31/03/2021 11:10

I found them faultless.

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2021 11:12

Waitrose Click and Collect is very good. At some stores you can park up, ring them and they will bring your shopping out to you. You can still decline the substitutions etc. If you want zero contact you can pop your boot and they'll place it in for you.
There seems to be more available slots for this.

HeeHiHoHum · 31/03/2021 11:12

Absolutely love them and they’ve never let us down.

However they’re removing the 3 for £10 meat and fish offer from next week which means we may have to move elsewhere as it’s just too pricey now Sad

Happyelfjokeday · 31/03/2021 11:13

Fine here. Only shop I was able to book deliveries from during lockdown. Always arrive on time. Sometimes subs but always sensible ones; and if something is short dated they give it for free. Worth trying again I reckon

Sparklingbrook · 31/03/2021 11:13

Plus the slots are an hour so there's no being late/waiting-you just go in the hour you've chosen.

Newkitty · 31/03/2021 11:14

ok, I think I'm going to give it another go!

I’m having them once a month to stock up of stuff that Ocado no longer carry. (Like vegetarian curries, ffs). I’ve been happy but there have been more subs than with Ocado and the whole unpacking on the door step is tiresome.

Stopyourhavering64 · 31/03/2021 11:16

Brilliant service- we don't have Ocado where I live and don't like Tesco or Asda optionsand would have to pay for Tesco delivery....
I'm on shielding list and was so grateful to be able to shop online during lockdown - much prefer shopping online now anyway as mobility is restricted - although do miss not being able to select meat/ fish from butcher/fishmonger counter
Very few times items have been out of stock, have received very good replacement items ....love the selection of food available and website is very easy to navigate and update order

WaltzingTilda · 31/03/2021 11:40

Been using Waitrose delivery for a couple of months now. They were quite good initially but the last two to three weeks haven't been that great in terms of expiration dates. We usually shop for the whole week but everything they delivered on Sunday evening expired on 31st of March including the milk. We don't mind risking things with dates sometimes but don't really like giving our toddler expired food. Will be booking q couple more deliveries to see if things get better, if not will just have to go to the shops

Don't fear, they're not removing it! They change the offer twice a year (end of Sep / beginning of Oct and end of Mar / beginning of Apr) as they switch over from winter to summer products.

There will still be 3 for £10 from 7th April but it will include more BBQ meats etc. which is why it shows as a new offer.

HeeHiHoHum · 31/03/2021 13:19

@bananapumpkin that will literally have made my day if that’s the case!! What was worrying me is that when I booked the slots for the following two weeks, no meat or fish offers were shown and all the items were full price.

I’m hoping you’re right and they’ve just not had a chance to update the system!

PickAChew · 31/03/2021 13:25

I usually book 2 weeks ahead (their whole North East delivery quota comes from a single shop in Hexham so have to get in early) and never rely on offers when I first fill my basket. I go back through when I edit, a day or two before, to make sure I have those sorted.

KihoBebiluPute · 31/03/2021 13:34

I was a semi-regular Waitrose customer pre-Covid. Back in March 2020 I think I had a couple of slots that had been booked before the lockdown started, but then it was suddenly impossible to get a slot at all unless you were on the list of vulnerable and elderly. My parents (70s/80s) have had a weekly slot throughout and have been very happy. I was finally able to get a slot again last week and stocked up on the little luxuries that Waitrose stock that are better than the other supermarkets. Had no real problems at all. A handful of substitutions that were all perfectly reasonable, not weird at all (including one upgrade from a 200g pack of something to a 500g pack for no extra charge which was nice) and a couple of things that were just unavailable. The shopping turned up right at the very end of the hour-long slot, the driver phoned half way through the slot to apologise that he was running a bit late as there was a problem with his van, but he still made it within the expected time (there would have been some people who got their shopping a bit late because we were half way through his list for the hour so everyone after us would have been minorly inconvenienced)

Crankley · 31/03/2021 13:51

My main problem with Waitrose is how hard it is to get a slot. One of the drivers said I should contact them and ask to be put on the priority list due to age/physical disability but I didn't because I think there are people that need it more than me.

I had a delivery slot with Tesco on Saturday and normally their drivers are brilliant. A couple phone me 5 minutes before they arrive so I can get to the front door just as they arrive, most wait patiently, knowing I use a walking frame. I was in the bathroom when they arrived on Saturday. Did my best to get to door asap to see the van driving off with a card saying no reply so no delivery.

I checked Waitrose and by a miracle they had a slot free last night from 9-10pm. I love their food, I don't love that you can't change the order after midday the previous day (Tesco is 11.30pm and hate their error message if you try to book a slot just after midnight. It's obviously there is no error, they are just giving those on priority list first pick. I'm happy with that but just say so, no need to lie.
