My mouth / teeth feel horrible

turquoiseseaandbluesky · 30/03/2021 19:28

The last proper clean I had was January 2020 and I can feel a buildup of plaque even though I brush so thoroughly and use mouthwash. Sad

I don’t think I have bad breath ... I hope not. But there’s often a horrible taste in my mouth which is only very temporarily relieved by mouthwash or toothpaste, and my teeth often feel ‘dirty’ even a couple of hours after brushing.

I think it’s just plaque buildup but any tips?

Do you use floss? Maybe try an interdental brush too?

turquoiseseaandbluesky · 30/03/2021 19:58

I try but my teeth are close together and I end up with a mouth full of blood [shocked]

If you floss regularly them the bleeding will stop. It'll likely take about a week.

It doesn’t honestly sleepyhead

I have 36 teeth instead of 32 and they are very close together as a result. I can’t even wedge floss between some of them.

Desperately need dentists to open!

Definitely start flossing if you can't floss use tepe interdental brushes or get a waterpik

Also book an appointment with the hygienist sounds like you need a proper clean, I had mine done a few months ago

irie · 30/03/2021 20:02

My teeth are very close together and the hygienist showed me how to properly use the interdental brushes, pink tepe are the smallest

Alfaix · 30/03/2021 20:04

Dentists have been open for 9 months.
Come and see us.

Ohpulltheotherone · 30/03/2021 20:04

Dentists are open? I had a check up and clean about 2 months ago and last weekend I went to a cosmetic dentist for some scans and prep for cosmetic work.

Where are you based?

Genuinely don’t understand why there is such a difference between all the GPS, dentists etc.

turquoiseseaandbluesky · 30/03/2021 20:04

Yeah I used to thanks - I couldn’t when pregnant due to nausea and sickness and now I can’t wedge them in at all Sad

I am desperate to see a dentist but they are all shut!

turquoiseseaandbluesky · 30/03/2021 20:04

Mine isn’t ohpull - I would go private but on SMP, so it’s difficult.

Mine hasn’t, I promise! I was ringing them every month in the autumn!

Get a Waterpic water flosser. Works even if teeth really close together.

Aknifewith16blades · 30/03/2021 20:06

Try dental tape rather than floss for small spaces.

turquoiseseaandbluesky · 30/03/2021 20:07

@ScrummyDiva2

Get a Waterpic water flosser. Works even if teeth really close together.
Aren’t they expensive? I’ll have a look.

I don’t think it’s just the flossing either, my teeth need a proper clean!

If your gums bleed from flossing it's likely you have gum disease. Book in with the dentist

You’ll inevitably have bad breath if there’s a plaque build up. You really need to keep flossing until the bleeding stops, or water floss. Could you have a couple of teeth removed and then braces to space the remaining out a tiny bit so you can clean them properly? Extreme but worth it to not have bad breath!

Potpourriandpennysweets · 30/03/2021 21:28

You need to clean interdentally with floss, water pic, interdental brushes, any way really, I used to think there wasn't space between my teeth either, but then I just persevered. Now they never ever bleed and I can floss around every tooth. It amazes me after I finish brushing and then floss the amount of yuck is left behind

DIshedUp · 30/03/2021 22:20

Dentists should be open!

The most obvious thing in the meantime is flossing. Or you could try a waterproof, floss harps or interdental brushes, some interdental cleaning. You are missing nearly half the tooth so its no wonder your teeth feel dirty

Floss is designed to pass through teeth that are touching, teeth have some give. I've never found a gap I couldn't floss! You just need to find the right product for you, the bleeding will stop.

Ours has been too, until recently. I think they've only been open a couple of months. I'm going next month. Finally!
Shieldingending · 30/03/2021 22:23

Are you in England? My NHS dentist is fully open and so are all of the others in my area. I've had a checkup and hygienist appointment

PferdeMerde · 30/03/2021 22:24

The government don’t give a fuck about people’s oral health. Oh well, the hairdressers are open! That’s much more important

RavingAnnie · 30/03/2021 22:25

Ring around. We have two dentists in our household. They've been open for months. I've had two checkups and three hygienists appts since last June.

@turquoiseseaandbluesky

Assume your partner not on SMP? Can he cover private costs?

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/03/2021 22:29

I read an article today that said that the government are trying to put pressure on dentists to start treating NHS patients again. I’m so sorry you can’t see your dentist OP. It’s absolutely shit.
