I have just booked our wedding for 22nd May 2021

Obviously a wedding dress is out of the question as a) it is too short notice and b) I am 57 and would look daft in a wedding dress, even getting a regular dress is going to be a bit of a push. We are getting married at the local Town Hall with a gathering for 15 people at the local pub afterwards. I don't know if we'll don't be able to find a photographer in time but I would like reminders of our big day especially as in a few months time these are all I am likely to have as DP has terminal cancer and is unlikely to be here come late summer.

I don't even know why I am posting, I guess I am excited but sad. I am so sad we are getting married in these circumstances. We would've slipped off and married at some point but it was never top of our agenda and now it is but for the wrong reasons.

Congratulations OP. I'm sorry that the circumstances have led to this timing, but at least it can happen fairly soon.

Ihavenoidea · 30/03/2021 15:46

Could you try The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, to see if they can help you find a photographer? www.weddingwishingwell.org.uk/

moochingtothepub · 30/03/2021 15:54

Lots of larger charity shops have wedding clothes and if you contact your local hospice who has shops, they may be able to help locate an outfit (volunteers are back sorting next Tuesday here) given the circumstances.

For a photographer, why not email your local 6th form/FE college, if they offer photography, which many do, they may have very talented young people looking to build their portfolio who would love the opportunity (plus young people have struggled to find the normal pt jobs).

Sorry to hear about the circumstances, but many people would be very happy to help out I'm sure

Local photography students? I'd reach out to photographers first they may have space as people have been putting weddings off? I hope your day goes well. If you happen to be in central Scotland I'd be happy to do what I can to help.

bloodywhitecat · 30/03/2021 15:58

Some brilliant ideas, thank you, The only issue could be that we have a foster baby who will be front and centre on the day, would that be a problem for students as he is not allowed to appear in public photos?

Yes I absolutely love the bones of him (and his grumpy steroid fuelled arse, bloody chemo side effects!). You are right, thank you.

Have a search for a camera club locally? And it's worth checking out actual wedding photographers too - you never know.

Wishing you all the very best - I'm sure your day will be amazing

CMOTDibbler · 30/03/2021 16:16

Congratulations! You know what, I'd go full on wedding dress personally, why not? And with 7 weeks you have loads of time to get something lovely, esp if you know someone who can take a hem up. Have a look on ebay and see if theres anything you fancy as you can get some amazing bargains - yesterday the most fabulous dress and coat came up on one of my saved searches for a designer I like and they were £200 as opposed to about £5k new - and I'd have worn it at 48

AllTheCakes · 30/03/2021 16:21

Congratulations! I hope you have a lovely day.

You could absolutely get a wedding dress in time from the high street. Monsoon have some lovely options.

Hi again

I'm so pleased you've set a date, I hope DP is feeling good on the day.

It's a shame my niece has gone back to NZ or she would have come & done it for you (with my car & fuel 🤣🤣),

She would have taken loads of photos with & without FDS & no problem re public photos (she wouldn't have used them publically)

I am sure there would be a MNer who would be happy to come & do the photos for you.

When are the shops near you opening? I'm sure you'll find a lovely dress if that's what you want. (I look like a bloody lampshade in a dress - I have no idea what I'd wear if I was getting married now. Probably leggings 🤣🤣)

Have you managed to choose your 15 or still struggling to narrow it down?

I'm excited for you, I hope it will be a lovely day 💐🥂🍾 with memories that you can hold dear forever. xx

Daisychainsandglitter · 30/03/2021 18:24

I'm glad you've booked a date. I hope you have a wonderful day packed full of memories.
Wishing you and your DP the best.

bloodywhitecat · 30/03/2021 22:16

We are just inviting the kids and their partners 😁. Our daughters are witnesses and my son is walking me down the aisle. We did talk about inviting other family members but it quickly got ridiculous with the "If we invite A we'll have to invite B and C. If we invite B and C we'll have to invite X,Y and Z"

What sort of area are you in OP?

I may be able to help with photography if not too far

I can completely relate to the feeling like a lampshade in a dress (and we have spoken about it being a jeans and tee shirt affair!)

The wedding sounds OK to me. You have time to find yourself a really nice outfit too. Telephone all the local photographers now, someone will have a vacant slot. You can get a bouquet any time.

Congratulations and good luck. There's nothing to feel sad about.

Nacreous · 30/03/2021 22:47

Diss have a camera club, and I think Beccles do too. Might be worth a try?

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 30/03/2021 23:35

Congratulations!

Ask on a local Facebook site. I'm sure there's a lot of photographers around. Try them!

I had 6 months to choose, and decided on a monsoon dress. I loved it. And much much cheaper and less loo-roll-dolly than everything I saw in the bridal shops. I ordered for home delivery and tried a few on at home. Much nicer!

bloodywhitecat · 31/03/2021 13:47

I went down the Facebook route, I belong to a couple of photography pages as I like to point and shoot sometimes with a reasonable result and a lovely wedding photographer came forward and offered his services.

Small (our fosterling) has a very cute outfit sorted from La Redoute so at least he will be well dressed Grin
