You can unless your contract with your existing employer says otherwise.

A 16 year old contract isn't going to mention furlough Grin

You need to ask them what they decided when they first used the scheme in 2020, is it mentioned in your furlough letter?

Comefromaway · 30/03/2021 15:08

It won't mention furlough but it will say whether you are allowed to work elsewhere whilst employed.

GintyMcGinty · 30/03/2021 15:10

Yes if your employer agrees to it. You will have to remain available for your current employer who can vary your furlough with 7 days notice.

Check your furlough letter or ask your employer. I am furloughed and we are able to take on another job (I haven't) as long as we are available to return to our usual place of work as soon as our 'main' employer wants us back.

You can. I have two friends on furlough who have been working in test centres since spring last year. Getting 100% pay for that plus 80% pay for their furloughed job.

As someone that had to take a 20% pay cut this year while still working 40hour+ weeks to 'save the business' I'm trying very very hard (and failing) to not be bitter.

The key point isn't whether you can as that's in the rules of the scheme itks whether your specific employer permits it and with what conditions

Please don't say that anyone can as that isn't the case and could get someone into trouble

All reputable employers will have considered this when they decided to use the scheme and made a decision based on their business

Thank you
