Has anyone recently bought a really good big parasol for the garden?

I’m after one that can be moved about and has the tilt option. I don’t want one that is going to fall apart being left out in the garden all summer (will obviously go away in winter). Can anyone recommend a decent one?

Yes we have the Ketler 3 metre one. It's excellent. Think it was around £300 from John Lewis last year

Timeformyparty · 31/03/2021 12:14

Thanks @T1gerEyes is it robust? Doesn’t get blown inside out or anything?

Sold out on John lewes or the ones in stock have bad reviews. I love the one with the lights and speaker!!

Following with interest. I'm not sure if I want a parasol or maybe a sail - something that doesn't need to be taken in everyday is a must though

T1gerEyes · 31/03/2021 19:19

We have the lights one! It's excellent and huge... comes with a cover so looks like a large sale throughout the winter! Solid, sand filled base. I highly recommend it - could be available elsewhere

T1gerEyes · 31/03/2021 19:28

Sail! Not sale! And no, it's too heavy and robust to blow about

whatsthestory123 · 31/03/2021 19:34

make sure you get a decent base otherwise they will go over and break

LeggingWoah · 31/03/2021 21:06

Which one is it you have @T1gerEyes I love a good recommendation and there are loads of 3m ones 😂

A2BviaCandD · 31/03/2021 21:10

My MIL bought us one from Lidl last summer. It is wide and tilts. Lasting really well.

T1gerEyes · 31/03/2021 21:46

@LeggingWoah it's the KETTLER Freestanding 360 Rotating Arm Parasol & Base, 3m, Taupe .... we had lights fitted though.

Honestly, it's brilliant. Does the job and looks nice

LeggingWoah · 31/03/2021 21:56

@T1gerEyes perfection! Thanks for taking the time to reply x

Timeisavirtue · 31/03/2021 22:53

We just got one from b&q , it tilts and moves around, it only took like 15 minutes to put together aswell. We are very impressed.

@T1gerEyes what lights did you put in? Battery ones?

@Timeisavirtue did you buy a base for it separately?

We got a 3m one off Amazon last year and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. You will need to factor in the weighted base units into the price as well. We got them from Homesbase for about 90 pounds.

Luxembourgmama · 01/04/2021 06:56

Yes I bought a really nice fat boy one.

AWamBamBoom · 01/04/2021 08:00

Following as I'm also looking

Timeformyparty · 01/04/2021 11:53

Are the weighted base things generic @Ulysses? So it doesn’t matter what you get? I have only ever had the pathetic types you get in pub gardens with bases you fill with water!

Yeah we had to buy the base separately.

Ulysses · 01/04/2021 12:43

These are the ones I bought parasol base

These are solid metal but I think you can get ones that you fill with sand or water. I like the look of them too and they've got a handle so you can carry them fairly easily. My umbrella part does does swing a fair amount in the wind without the base shifting at all.

I've seen picture where 2 are used by ours definitely needed 4.

Ulysses · 01/04/2021 12:46

Actually that one's resin not metal. They weigh a tonne though!

Cyclingforcake · 01/04/2021 14:05

*@Timeisavirtue
How many of the bases did you buy? We were going to get 2 but the reviews seem to say you need 4.

whatsthestory123 · 01/04/2021 14:11

buy 4 as the umbrellas are so big it will catch the wind and its just false economy not to,it will topple otherwise and will break imo

like i said mine has only gone over once on a very windy day (should of cranked it down) and it was used pretty much daily from April till sept

dirtyfries · 01/04/2021 15:04

I second the b&q Mallorca, ours is screwed into the decking and feels very sturdy

Timeformyparty · 01/04/2021 15:12

Sorry @Ulysses I’m just trying to visualise, so those quarter things, buy 4, they sit on the legs of the parasol? How does it sit on them without it being wobbly?
