Girl Guides badges. On hoodie?

DD has been in Guides almost a year and hasn't had real life meetings yet but has badges earned in the Zoom meetings. Her unit has no rule on what to do with badges. GG shop only sells badge sashes for Rainbows and Brownies so I assume most people sew them on the hoodies. How do people arrange them? If anyone is willing to post a photo, that would really help.

Didn’t want to leave you unanswered - it tells you on Girlguiding.org.uk exactly where to put them, but basically it’s on their guide top.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 29/03/2021 19:27

Mine refused to have them on her uniform once she moved up to Guides, said no one else did, we put them on a blanket instead.

scissy · 29/03/2021 19:31

Most of the guides at our link unit (I do brownies) have a blanket and put them on them there. I'll be honest I've cheated and DD is starting early - she's had hers since Rainbows Grin.

Blanket here too. And old uniforms/sashes with badges on were cut up and also sewn onto the blanket.

oohmyback · 29/03/2021 19:41

At my unit I suggest on blankets because most of them camp and my selfish ulterior motive is to have a well kept supply of nice second hand uniform lol

Bookridden · 29/03/2021 19:50

Blanket here as well.

Any chance you have a link as I've looked before posting and looked since and I can't find that. I have kids in scouting too and they have a badge placement diagram for all sections and I've never been able to find a guiding one. All I've managed to find is a note that the promise badge should be worn on the left.

A brilliant plan! 😂

Its so much easier to see badges onto blankets than jumpers.

(I'm not resentful about the number of badges my children have sent over the last few months in Cubs... Honest... Can't even blame the leaders as I am one!

Noodledoodledoo · 29/03/2021 22:46

There is no set way in which to display the guide badges with the current uniform, hasn't been since we got rid of the sashes in early 2000's. (Guide leader of 26 years!)

Most of my unit add them to a blanket, a few have them sewn on to their polo shirt. I don't think anyone has them sewn to the hoodie (Its been a while since I have seen them!)

AppleKatie · 29/03/2021 22:49

^what she said.

It’s annoying- get a blanket though, long term worth it!

2pinkginsplease · 29/03/2021 22:54

Blanket here too.

They look so untidy on the hoodie so we (ehm my mum ) sewed them onto the guide blanket. It looks fab when going guide camp and is a lovely keep sake.

SpongeCakeAddict · 29/03/2021 23:00

Everyone does it differently.

I run a Brownie unit and we have kids with them on t shirts, hoodies, gilets...

They do official blankets now, so we also put some on the blankets.

My eldest is a Guide and we'll probably put theirs on the polo shirt (so that the hoodie can be passed down)

Purpletomato · 29/03/2021 23:19

Definitely a majority vote for a blanket then. In Brownies I had her badges on the hoodie but the Brownies hoodie is a much softer material than the Guides one
I'll need to find a nice blanket, I won't buy the Guides one as I'd want to put scouting badges on it too (she does both).

We just bought a blue fleece blanket.
Absolute pain in the arse transferring all her brownie badges to it though.

Seeline · 30/03/2021 12:06

My DD had hers on her hoody, as did most of the others in her unit. No particular places - all down sleeves and across the back.

Noodledoodledoo · 30/03/2021 16:48

I have a sash for my Daughter in Rainbows and my long term plan is to sew the sash to the blanket - no resewing badges.

My own blanket is so far behind!!!! About 15 years worth of badges to do!

carolinesbaby · 30/03/2021 16:53

Been a guide leader for 20 years. No set way to display badges anymore. Don't try to put them on the jacket though, it won't work well with the soft shell fabric.
Most of mine have a camp blanket.
