Rotary washing line

Our reasonably new line has broken so I'm hoping for some recommendations as I'm looking online and none of the reviews are helping me make a decision.

So.. if you have one, what brand is it, why do you like it and should I get the same one as you?

Thanks for helping with something so boring, but its such a vital thing to have so I really don't want to get it wrong again!

A whirly gig? Mine is a brabantia and works well. No issues.

Brabantia here too. Sturdy and big so it holds plenty of washing and came with a waterproof cover and a peg basket.

I've broken previous ones in the past leaving them open and up in bad weather so I vowed to look after this one.

How did it break?

We have a random one from Argos - it's fine

Thanks for your replies so far. Seen the Brabrantia ones and wondered if they were worth the price tag..seems they may be which is good to know.

I'm sure my last one was Vileda and lasted ages before we moved house and left it there as it was concreted in but in a weird way so we couldn't easily remove it. Can't remember exactly though or I'd have probably got the same brand.

This one that has broken is a RotaSpin from Homebase. It was cheap so I wasn't expecting it to last forever but equally wasn't expecting it to break on the third use. The metal pole bent at the base just before the metal ground spike, tipping the whole line over to the ground. I don't think it was overloaded or anything either.

@Bairnsmum05 and @Shesellsseashellsontheseashore which Brabantia ones do you have out of interest as they have the normal ones and the lift o matics but they cost more..

We bought a brabanita last year that attaches to the side of the house and folds away when not in use. I'm really pleased with it and that I don't have it in the lawn anymore.
I don't use it that often though to be fair, might not be so good for a heavy user am a bit of a slattern.

Brabantia here too, going strong still after 15 years (original Argos version broke after 5 years, even though we used to cover it when not in use). Don't bother covering Brab one though since its 2nd cover disintegrated from weather and uv.

We bought a 60m Brabantia rotary washing line 14 years ago, and it is solid and dependable. It is heavily used for about 8 months of the year, in a garden with children playing football etc. Definitely worth the expense. I think it's a liftomatic. I replaced the original cover last year.

Brabantia here as well I think it's a good 10 years old now still works brilliantly.

Another vote for brabantia. They're products are pricey but last well and you can generally replace individual parts if they break

Brabantia here too with the ground bit concreted in. Very solid and used a lot, no complaints. Have two loads pegged out now

I have a Brabantia that is fixed to a wall and pulls out to form a whirly. Then you fold it up when you’re done. They’re more expensive, but have the advantage of being foldaway, so you don’t have it on show permanently. Wouldn’t have anything else now.

I hope you're going to go back to Homebase for a refund on the basis it's not fit for purpose?

If you're not to supposed to fill all the line, why is it there?

Hills - pricy, but we've had it years, and they claim to be the uk's toughest rotary washing lines !
Why I like it - it has a handle on the pole to wind it up higher to catch the breeze better; and when it's wound right down the line locks in position so you don't have to chase the washing round in circles to unpeg it.

Thanks everyone. Definitely going to revisit the Brabantia ones. The Hills ones are a bit out of my price range unfortunately.. though I might try and convince DH

We got a brabantia 50m topspinner for 60 quid a few years ago. It's fab. Our garden is really winery and it's held up no trouble. Only downside was the cover cost extra and was a bit shit.

Brabantia 50m here too. The main upright is much larger and stronger than the cheap supermarket versions. 5 years and two children in. Never had a cover.

Brabantia lift o matic here - it's good, pricey but worth it.

There's this one in the most recent Lidl catalogue.

I think I have a 50m lift o matic.

Brabantia here too, just the normal type. I leave it out all summer but during the winter it goes in the shed

Brabantia you pull out from the wall and it magically unfurls, hated a lawn one which DH never managed to put in straight so it reminded me of a penis at half mast each time I looked out the window

I did say it was expensive In my defence, it's super sturdy and has a 10 year warranty; and I'm pretty sure we'd spent more than that + much frustration in the previous 10 years on cheaper ones that kept breaking !

I have a Vileda and its shit. Its so stiff to put up, you haveto take it appart, turn the top bit upside down and push it whilst balancing the pole on a tower of bricks.

Hung my washing out on a windy day and the bastarding thing couldnt cope and now looks like the leaning tower of pisa
