Where can I take my DD on Friday?

I have my Dd on Friday for a day of mother daughter bonding and with the travel restrictions lifting I thought I would treat her to venture out further a field but I’m struggling for ideas.

I was thinking to go to the beach at first but I know it will be mega busy being bank holiday and that’s the last thing anyone needs.

Has anyone got any ideas for somewhere to visit, a lovely walk somewhere or to see something exciting would be perfect. Or any other ideas but with things closed I’m stuck. Don’t want to travel too far of course as they are encouraged still to stay local but we are in between borders so Lancashire/Yorkshire and the Peak District is doable.

I don't know about trips in your area but if it's mother-daughter bonding you want, what does your DD really love? And how old is she?

How old is your DD

Luds church (not actually a church) near Wincle in the peaks is really unusual and interesting.
Forest of bowland also wouldn’t be too far

She’s 9 going on 10 but really in to the outdoors at the moment. She loves to climb too.

I’m thinking of taking a picnic wherever we end up she would love that

What about a national trust/English heritage house and gardens? You can’t go in the houses at the moment but a lot of the gardens are running Easter themed events as it’s outdoors?

How about Burbage South Valley near Hathersage?

If you walk along the main track you will get to an awesome collection of boulders. I don't know if you're a climber or not - if you are, it's some top-notch bouldering for you both, if not, clambering on the boulders (with you spotting/supporting beneath) is a great way for you daughter to get a climbing fix without having to go with an adult who has all the gear/knowledge.

Oh, and if she doesn't have any already, maybe see if you can get a pair of childrens' climbing shoes delivered in time - they make a massive difference to how well kids can climb, and it might make it into more of an exciting 'event'

I do feel someone should point out that the change in travel restrictions is from Stay Home to Stay Local, so you should take that into account.

Themadcatparade · 29/03/2021 12:56

@rbe78 oh wow this place looks cool, thank you! The kids are only just starting to take an interest in it really but getting lots better and climbing and scrambling- we wanted to start them in classes last year but obviously that was cast aside.

I’ll add it to the list Grin

@DobbleDobble I’ll have a look at the local ones.

We enjoyed Bolton abbey the year before last who do Easter themed outdoor activities and they loved it but I didn’t think anything like that would be on!

@lastqueenofscotland done Bowland and me and my DP did luds church for our anniversary last year which was gorgeous! Something similar would be perfect for her really.

She’s taken some interest in some caves and caverns too, we have done exploring the caves on Castleton in the peaks and also Thor’s cave but I’d like to stay away from anything that would be so busy!

How about going riding together? Is there a trekking centre nearby where you can bumble along on a hack for a few hours?

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/03/2021 13:07

Are there any outdoor sports places that she'd like, things like adventure golf, archery, ziplining. They're all open here as of today.

Themadcatparade · 29/03/2021 13:17

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo yes!! I didn’t even think. I shall have a look what’s available.

Luckily me and my DP managed to squeeze abseiling in on the 2nd January right before the announcement of this years lockdownb
