Midwifes opinion please! Is it pointless me retraining as one?

I’d love to be a midwife, I’m 25 so although I would need to train from scratch I don’t think it’s too late time wise, but I have 2 kids, a toddler and a baby. I was thinking of starting the open uni course this year and then hopefully once they are a bit bigger starting formal training. It’s only an idea at the moment so I haven’t got it all planned out.

Thing is I have no family close enough to watch the kids on weekends. My dp would be home overnight so night shifts would be ok, and I’d have school hours to catch up on sleep, etc.

Are Monday-Friday midwifes a thing? Or would I retrain just to never get a job? Also, would I regret pursuing this with young kids of my own? Would I regret missing out on time with them?

I’ve gone from admin job to admin job for years now and I’m feeling so unfulfilled

I’m not a midwife but I am a nurse. If it wasn’t for the weekends thing I would say go for it but there is no way you can do the training and opt out of weekends sorry. You’ll be expected to work alongside a mentor and co mentor so you will be expected to work what they work. Even on community placements you will have to work weekends.

Once you have trained you could do an additional year and qualify as a health visitor which would be mon-fri but that would be another year of intense training.

Why can’t your DP look after them at weekends if he can look after them overnight?

My dp works weekends. Thank you for the feedback. So frustrating with childminders unavailable on weekends.

You can’t do either the training or the job mom-fri. Sorry.

Oh I see, sorry I didn’t realise that.

There are some childminders who work weekends. There is one near where I live.
