The mounting mountain of stuff on the table, anyone else

I am sure this has been done to death but I am feeling the rage at the frequency which I have to tidy detritus from the kitchen table. Loose papers, the odd penny, the recycling being put there rather than in the recycling bin.
Anyone else have one space in their house which is cleaned/tidied, only to be used as a handy spot for everything and anything?!

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 28/03/2021 14:02

every fucking surface including the floor.

shadypines · 28/03/2021 14:58

Yes, my bug bear is the coffee table/s, the largest of our 3 is esp used for detritus.
Got the odd grubby penny? Stick it on the table(SIOTT)
Cut a label off a new top? SIOTT(along with that annonying little plactic tag)
Got a scrap of paper with a number written on? You know the one that will get lost in the blink of any eye and you'll loose your temper when you can't find it yes DH I'm talking to you SIOTT
Got a dirty tissue? SIOTT
Opened a letter and can't be bothered to bin/recycle the envelope? SIOTT
Got any sort of bill/receipt? SIOTT

I wouldn't mind if any of the above were temporary but if muggins does not shift it it could become the next Tate Modern art instillation.

shadypines · 28/03/2021 14:59

lose not loose

Theunamedcat · 28/03/2021 15:00

I am the proud owner of the next tate modern installation also known as my kitchen table

piglet81 · 28/03/2021 15:01

Blush In my house I am the culprit on this front, and it drives DH mad. In my defence I do a disproportionate amount of the housework but piles of stuff are my blind spot.

piglet81 · 28/03/2021 15:02

Oh, and it’s the end of the kitchen counter, one end of the dining table and the bench in the hall...

AdaFuckingShelby · 28/03/2021 15:04

Recycling collects on my table at an alarming rate. I've recently started putting abandoned coins in my purse, if they don't see the value I don't see why I should tidy them up for them. The floordrobe on the landing is quite a sight. Sweet wrappers, chocolate wrappers, crisp packets all over the place as well. Oh the joys.

doctorhamster · 28/03/2021 15:04

Every surface is used as a dumping ground in this house. Drives me insane.

Part of the problem is lack of suitable storage to be fair.

Gizlotsmum · 28/03/2021 15:07

Just had a moan and a blitz. If it isn’t piles of crap it is dust and no one else seems to notice. Made worse by working from home so no escape. Oh and NO ONE ever leaves stuff anywhere...

Doyoumindfisithere · 28/03/2021 15:11

No, I am surprised to have turned out quite tidy and have quite tidy children. I was a proper messy person when younger, then I got sick of it.

I know it is boring but if you have enough storage and make people put their stuff away eventually it stops accumulating.

dementedma · 28/03/2021 15:13

Yup. Kitchen table here. Always piles of paper and general rubbish. Even the bloody fruit bowl is home to a glasses case, a pair of scissors and a 10p piece. Why?

daisiesinmay · 28/03/2021 16:35

I've got so much on mine. Cant even be bothered to clear it up any more

AliceBlueGown · 28/03/2021 16:47

Yes, one end of the dining table which has never recovered from me working from home.

sunnysidegold · 28/03/2021 17:09

Yep it's one kitchen bench that house fruit bowl and a little holder for post, a napkin tray.

And....two lucnhboxes, junk mail, need darts, ruler, magazines no one will read, screwdrivers, chargers, case for Nintendo switch, hair bobbles, soap for upstairs bathroom, a pair of socks.....and.....a cuddly toy.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 28/03/2021 17:13

Weirdly, no. Every other surface, yes, but not the dining table. Maybe it's because it's in a seperate dining area (kind of off but part of the living room) which has a sideboard that gets everything dumped on it. As does the dresser.
The kitchen worktop however, despite it being a small kitchen, is always covered in crap.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 28/03/2021 17:19

There's only 3 of us so the spare dining chair is where our stuff is kept, I put my laptop on there at the end of work (WFH on the dining table) DD keeps her laptop there ready for the 1 hour it gets used a week for her homework (but was used daily when home schooling so I don't feel bad about that). DD's latest craft projects seems to always end up.in that place setting so.It is a good job we only have one kid!

Tinkywinkydipsylalapofaced · 28/03/2021 21:41

@shadypines

lose not loose
No, loose! As in 1 piece of paper, known as loose leaf. Derailing my own thread but don't need a grammar twat popping by.

You're correct, OP. Loose paper. What an odd attempt at correction.

Chunkymenrock · 28/03/2021 21:49

Shadypines said loose your temper. That's what the correction was about! Lose is right!

Seainasive · 28/03/2021 21:49

End of the kitchen counter here too. AKA the pile of doom.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 28/03/2021 21:57

Worktop here as well. Anything that’s delivered to DH in terms of tools, cables etc, starts off there, then gets added to with screws, nails, a torch, bits of paper, letters. Then the side table on DH’s side of the kitchen sofa has tablet, laptop, another tablet, pens, notebook, bits of paper.

I have a rant every now and then.

Blackisthecolour · 28/03/2021 22:12

Grammar twats are annoying but in Shadypines defence, she was actually correcting herself from the post above, not correcting the OP. False alarm folks!

BluTangClan · 28/03/2021 22:12

It's Clutter corner/crud corner in this house, at the end of the kitchen worktop. But also the pile on the kitchen table, which sometimes has an overflow onto a vacant dining chair when I'm fed up of eating whilst surrounded by it.

echt · 28/03/2021 22:24

I can keep on top of the kitchen counter, but the dining table is my office/dumping ground.

I live on my own, and annoy even me.

TroysMammy · 28/03/2021 22:31

I keep the table laid to prevent build up of crap, placemats, plate on top, cutlery and salt and pepper.
