A&E whilst isolating

I've just broken my big toe falling down the stairs whilst carrying baby. It is agony. I'm in my last day of self isolation. Can I go to A&E?

Sorry for the short post, literally shaking in pain!

No, as unlikely they’ll do anything. Ring 111 for advice.

Pretty much everywhere you need to phone 111 before going so this is something you can discuss with them. About whether you will be seen or need to wait a day.

Sorry for your pain. How's the baby?
(Actually if you need a&e I'm sure there are ways you can go....as others have said make the call first.) Is the toe misshapen? Do you need manipulation/operation on it....or is it just pain management?

Ring 111 to ask for advice but A&E are seeing people during their isolation period/who are covid positive. There are measures in place for those who need to go, but they are triaging people first to keep A&E for those who really need to be there. You might find that unless it's misshapen, badly swollen or dislocated then they are likely to advise self treatment in the first instance.

Thank you all. I rang 111 as soon as I'd posted (not sure why my first thought was to alert Mumsnet rather than the NHS!!) and I've got a video appointment this morning.

Baby, thankfully, is absolutely fine. All of my weight went on my shin/foot as my knee bent and I skidded down 8ish steps so he was well protected in my arms.

I've lost a lot of skin from my shin/foot and my toe is very swollen and bent out of shape.

Ouch. Sound horrid. I hope.you have some pain relief now.

Thank you. Toe is broken in several places and looks like I may need pins put in - waiting for confirmation when the trauma clinic review my x-ray at some point during the week.

For now it's bed rest and ibuprofen.. I can't take anything stronger as I'm breastfeeding.
