Ds(15) is shy. He knows a lot and wants to talk about stuff. But he is very cautious. His social life for the last year has consisted of football kick around with 3 other boys. Soon he can rejoin his football club. It could be worse!

He says he wishes he could talk about the world and his ideas with his friends like he can with me, his dad and brother.

I have read science of making friends which is a good start and helps confirm those unwritten rules www.booktopia.com.au/the-science-of-making-friends-elizabeth-laugeson/book/9781118127216.html. But he’s ready to take conversation beyond the “safe” topics of football, annoying teachers, etc. But he fears seeming weird if he does so.

Does anyone have any book/video ideas?

A book won't really help in this situation I wouldn't have thought. What he needs to do is find like minded people to talk with. So he can talk football with the footie boys and whatever else he has interests in with those people. What is it he would like to discuss is he interested in science, computers, theology, mango etc? If he finds groups online he can 'talk to like minded people then hopefully find like minded people in the real world through clubs etc
