Kitchen companies - need recommendations

We are going to be knocking through and extending the back of our house soon which will involve putting in a new kitchen. Never done it before so I don’t know where to start. Which companies would you recommend (or not!)? We are based in the north west (east of Manchester) if anyone has any local suggestions.

DIY Kitchens online company they have a showroom in Pontefract which when the shops open again you can visit, their pricing is transparent good quality and they are very helpful at tweeking your design they have an online planner which you can play around with before you make the final decision we went with them last year and i am very happy with my kitchen

Magnet annoyed me as you had to choose your cupboard doors before designing your kitchen, instead of the actual units. This was a problem as not all the doors fitted each unit.

Thanks, good tips

Also recommend DIY kitchens :)

We got ours from IKEA, still looks like new 4 years later. No problems at all & would happily use them again.

BarbaraofSeville · 28/03/2021 09:26

Another recommendation for IKEA, I'm very happy with ours. Didn't look at DIY kitchens, not sure why, but I know a lot of people rate them.

I also looked at Howdens but gave up as they were awful to deal with and you couldn't find out what anything actually cost as your fitter has to order it, they all get different levels of discount. Stupid business model if you ask me.

Bumping again

DIY kitchens for me too.
Fabulous showroom. I liked being able to design myself (had 2 designs done by other companies and they just asked me and put in what I asked for with no helpful suggestions).

The units come mostly in increments of 50mm so can look pretty well bespoke. solid carcasses - even the backs and loads of options for clever storage.

Avoid Wren kitchens at all costs.
DIY Kitchens are fantastic, as long as you have found a good builder/fitter who can install it.

missbunnyrabbit · 28/03/2021 16:24

I went with DIY kitchens. I wouldn't again.

Instead, go for a proper kitchen company (by proper I mean Wren, Magnet, Howdens etc) who will fit the kitchen.

I'm saying this because DIY kitchens is not good if things go wrong or you have problems. One example is, we have bits left over that we paid for but didn't need, yet they wouldn't refund us. Also, the cost for the delivery van!!!! Make sure you add that in.

Also, the quality isnt great. Two of my cupboards have chipped already. And the bottoms shelves of my upper cupboards are bowed.

They are not all that.

LagneyandCasey · 28/03/2021 16:33

We've used IKEA and Wren. I'd recommend both.

We used Wren the most recently when we refitted our utility room so just a run of base and wall units but the units are solid and look great. They come fully assembled so you have to factor in storing them before they're fitted.

We sourced the worktop sink, taps and door handles from other places, mostly Wickes if I remember correctly. We got the handles from Amazon at about 10% of the price of Wren ones so it's always worth shopping around for the smaller bits and pieces rather than get sucked into buying them from whatever kitchen supplier you choose.
