Who's responsible for this masterpiece of craftsmanship?

Sandgrown1970 · 27/03/2021 15:26

Please tell me this isn’t a paid job...

Ilikewinter · 27/03/2021 15:32

Oh wow .....

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 15:46

Yes it’s a paid job!
He sold himself as ‘attention to detail’ ‘takes pride on his work’
He did some work on a house round the corner
I know he’ll go over it, but who puts a black coat on knowing you have to pain over it with white?

I don’t understand what’s going on
Maybe he wants me to sack him

He's useless. Get rid.

Somanysocks · 27/03/2021 15:54

It's a bit lumpy Op, did he use sandpaper at all?

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 15:56

Can you see this
He replaced these bits of wood
If asked him to fill and sand so you can’t see the joins, but I think he’s done

Wow, there's be no attempt to make that a smooth surface. He's just painted over peeling paint. And that's without the shocking covering on the window. Maybe he thought he'd put some protective masking tape down so he could be a bit slapdash.

I hope you haven't paid him yet??

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 16:10

Yes he’s been paid, not since Xmas though
He’s done about 4 days since then
He power sanded it all down, undercoated, it was fine
But this window is the last to be done cos it was covered with scaffold.

Dreadful work.

LaceyBetty · 27/03/2021 17:46

Wow. I'd be very disappointed and sack him for sure! How is that recoverable?

Veuvestar · 27/03/2021 20:43

I’m so sick of these workmen
No-one does a proper job

OP posts:
Veuvestar · 29/03/2021 14:06

I’m really mad now
He is just taking the piss
My roofer just told me he’s working round the corner, so excuses about Covid are bollocks and he’s quoted a woman twice the price of mine.
I was feeling sorry for him thinking he was forgetful and worried about Covid and it’s bollocks

Veuvestar · 29/03/2021 19:28

I’ve had someone look at it today and it’s worse than I thought. There’s different types of paint everywhere
It’s so patchy and there’s shiny gloss on the top level and Matt on the bottom
And he’s painted a brand new gutter, why?
Hes just sent text saying he’ll be here tomorrow, he hasn’t been here because Covid is a death sentence if he gets it. Blah blah He’s lying.
He’s working round the corner.
I never want to see him again, but my beautiful house is a mess. He’s ruined it

OP posts:
Veuvestar · 29/03/2021 20:18

What happens if I just refuse to pay him?

OP posts:
Ivy48 · 29/03/2021 20:21

I can’t imagine much would happen as he knows he’s done shoddy work. Also only 4 days work but he’s not chased you for any payment since December? He knows what he’s doing, he clearly can’t be arsed or is in over his head with your house. Just tell him not to come back due to his shoddy work with some pictures as back up. And I’d tell the other woman too

Veuvestar · 30/03/2021 13:49

So my good painter says that to do a proper job to start from scratch would be a bit of a nightmare.
just had a discussion with him, he said it was all my fault! I keep changing my mind! I haven’t spoken to him for weeks, I’ve literally just let him get on with it. I told him early on that I didn’t like the gloss.
Shouting at me outside! Said he just wants to walk.
He’s pissed off cos It was the roofers fault
Then he said that wasn’t the wood he replaced so it wasn’t his fault

There’s a lot he needs to go over, he admitted that.

Veuvestar · 30/03/2021 14:36

Oh and the pandemic
He blamed the pandemic

Matrottinetteelectrique · 30/03/2021 15:04

That’s a poor job IMO.

I did a “DIY for numpties” type evening class, and the teacher told us that the key to painting gloss was good preparation, painting in grain direction and only doing exterior painting from May until October on dry days, due to the drying time needed.

Veuvestar · 30/03/2021 20:01

He’s now painted white on the black!
He can do it, the other window is ok
