the dodgy pub up the road. And we can't make outgoing calls at all.

We swapped phone and internet providers on Thursday, why is nothing ever easy? First appointment to fix it is next Wednesday. Have not had a crossed line since a child, when if the weather was bad we'd be able to pick up our phone and hear the neighbours conversations! Has this happened to you at all?

What happens when you ring the pub number? Do you get you?

Will you have to start taking bookings for outdoor meals Grin

Did you know that no one on here has had a landline since 1995, you'll no doubt get lots of replies about that Grin

@FlyingBurrito I don't even have a smartphone, just a brick! House phone is literally only used by parents, some siblings and DCs school. Thank goodness it didn't happen last week as we had a family funeral which entailed endless phone discussions to sort arrangements and readings etc.

Not tried ringing the pub, I think we've probably annoyed them enough with elderly FIL ringing them every evening to ask how we are!

Like you, I don't remember crossed lines since the 1980s. If our landline stops working you simply don't get a dial tone and people ringing get the engaged signal.

They normally tell you to test the line by taking off the cover of the phone socket and plugging your phone directly into the inside socket (the socket the cover plugs into). This might be worth a try while you're waiting. If it works, you can leave the phone plugged in directly like that until you can get the socket cover replaced.

Wednesday is quicker than recent performance from some internet providers and BT judging from what I have read and heard.

Never heard of the issue you have had for many years, not since there were 'party lines'.

@CuthbertDibbleandGrub It's openreach that are coming out. They think problem is junction box on the street and that some wires are touching, so not in the house itself.
