I'm in an Easy Listening/AOR/MOR mood tonite...

JD - Calypso
ND - tie between The Last Thing On My Mind and I've Been This Way Before
TJ - The Green, Green Grass of Home

I'm also showing my age but I don't mind.

Yes we're all in our twilight years because we like some music from the '60's and 70's Confused

murbblurb · 27/03/2021 09:56

'reverend blue jeans' is what Terry Wogan called it and yes he was joking! This is obviously a very middle aged thread but as almost all music less than 15 years old is doofy doofy, crap rap or thickly made up women doing one note performances about their exes, I'll stay back in time.

Does liking a bit of medieval choral mean I'm 424 and really the owner of the Philosopher's stone? Or I just like what I like? @Oblomov21, g'wan, hit us with your edgy tastes and saintly performers. Meanwhile, I might do the Spotify list this afternoon. Grin
Tartyflette · 27/03/2021 10:03

Geamhradh oh yes, please!

PollyannaWhittier · 27/03/2021 12:22

@Oblomov21

What age are you all? Don't like any records by any of those artists. They all seem very old fashioned and old. Mind you ND is 80, so most of his fan base will be elderly.
27, since you ask.

I know, I'm soooo uncool for liking any music that wasn't written in the last six months. (I thought judging and deriding other people for their tastes had been left behind at school Hmm)

IAcceptCookies · 27/03/2021 12:31

@Oblomov21

Well, if your music taste (that you admit to) is all about displaying how youthful and cool you are, then I guess declaring admiration of the artists mentioned here is a big fail; however most people realise that good music is good music, however old it is or whoever it's by.

Oh, I only just realised we've moved into Scott Walker, Simon and Garfunkel and Cat Stevens, too! All fab; I especially like Cat Stevens.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 27/03/2021 13:38

Glen Campbell - Honey Come Back

I didn’t know they weren’t nice men. Didn’t think about it either way really, just the songs.

MMM2 · 27/03/2021 13:40

JD..Annie's song
ND. Hello my friend
TJ. Green green grass of home.

sausagedogststandupandtakeover · 27/03/2021 13:41

I just had to Google to check I hadn't been singing Forever In Blue Jeans wrong all these years when it should have been Reverend Blue Jeans Grin

sueelleker · 27/03/2021 13:42

JD-practically everything, but Flying For Me always makes me want to cry
ND-Chelsea Morning , Beautiful Noise
Don't like TJ at all.

CassandraCross · 27/03/2021 13:49

I'll leave John Denver off the list as I'm not a fan.

Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline
Tom Jones - I'll Never Fall in Love Again - I think this really showcases his voice.

I'll add Delilah because I didn't pick a JD song and because it's such an iconic song.

Cocolapew · 27/03/2021 15:03

Terry Wogan used to call Abba's Chiquitita 'take your teeth out' and I still sing that Grin

Cocolapew · 27/03/2021 15:05

If we only listened to people who hadn't done anything unpleasant there wouldn't be many left to listen too.

ginghamtablecloths · 27/03/2021 15:36

JD - Annie's Song

ND - I am ... I Said - a bit sad and contemplative

TJ - I am Coming Home to You - there's a catch in his voice which sounds as though he means it

StandardPoodle · 27/03/2021 17:26

Annie's song
Crackling Rosie
Delilah
Agree about Scott Walker's voice.
Simon & Garfunkel - bridge over Troubled Water
I don't think Matt Munro has been mentioned - Born Free
And I heard Sammy Davis junior on the radio this morning - I'd forgotten what a good performer he was.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 27/03/2021 18:21

Love Annie's Song.

PollyannaWhittier · 27/03/2021 18:28
Brilliant, I know what I'll be listening to tomorrow ! (just glanced through - I'd forgotten about Grandma's feather bed Grin)
WildRosie · 27/03/2021 18:43

Interestingly enough, many of the songs that Neil Diamond recorded weren't his own compositions, although they got the full treatment. Chelsea Morning (Joni Mitchell), Husbands and Wives (Roger Miller), Red Rubber Ball (Paul Simon) and I Think It's Going To Rain Today are examples.

Country Roads by John Denver was written by two members of Fat City, who went on to form the Starland Vocal Band ( Afternoon DelightSmile).

I'm fairly certain Tom Jones hasn't written a thing but he made GGGOH his own after Jerry Lee Lewis had recorded it. Curly Putman wrote the song. Apparently, Long Live Love was originally offered to Tom Jones by its writer. I don't know if he ever recorded it but Sandie Shaw did.

That's all. Paul Gambaccini moment over!

I should mention Randy Newman wrote I Think It's Going To Rain Today.

I must be an old gimmer.

I know this to be true - not just for my love of so many of these artists - but because back in my day you had a ‘c’ in yuck.

And I wouldn’t have been such a heeky unt either Wink

VienneseWhirligig · 27/03/2021 19:06

JD - Country Roads (also one of DS21's favourite songs)
ND - Beautiful Noise or Love on the Rocks (DS21 likes Sweet Caroline)
TJ - I'll Never Fall In Love Again (not keen on TJ but I like this song, although I prefer the Richard Marx version)

I'm early 40s. I like lots of different types of music, my Spotify is eclectic and probably uncool. But I like what I like and I give no fucks.

Geamhradh · 27/03/2021 19:37

My Spotify is that eclectic that all my old compilation tapes sit happily alongside my Eurovision greatest, my Gaelickery list (and yes, Daniel O'Donnell and Susan Boyle are both there) my Bellowing Boys list (il Divo, well dressed foreigners standing with their legs apart what's not to like?) He's Gone and I'm not Crying/He's gone and I'm crying a lot lists. And David Bowie hasn't complained yet about the company he's asked to keep on my shelf so it can't be that bad. Grin

BestIsWest · 27/03/2021 19:43

JD Take me home
ND Beautiful Noise
TJ. Thunderball

You definitely need some Glen Campbell in there too. Galveston.
Maybe some James Taylor?

LongTimeMammaBear · 27/03/2021 19:47

JD - Country Roads
ND - Sweet Caroline
TJ - Mama Told Me Not To Come
