The father of my daughter and his partner are smoking in the car whilst my daughter is in there with then. Ive asked him to stop doing it. He got mad and didnt understand why i was asking him. He said he would stop and get his partner to stop. But i know what he is like and wont. Is there anything else i can do?

Are you in the UK? It's illegal in the UK to smoke with children in the car.

I say this as a smoker before anyone jumps down my throat!

murbblurb · 26/03/2021 18:48

In the UK? Illegal if the kid is under 18.

VenusDoom · 26/03/2021 18:50

Yes in the UK. I know its illegal. Just dont know what to do as i know he wont listen.

Well, you could threaten to report him if he persists - £50 fine for both driver and smoker.

murbblurb · 26/03/2021 18:55

Don't let her go with him?

Poor kid, stuck in a car with smokers. disgusting.

Batshittery · 26/03/2021 18:58

How old is your DD? I can't believe that anyone would be so stupid in this day and age to smoke with a child in the car

VenusDoom · 26/03/2021 18:59

And he could stop when he picks her up so it looks like he isnt doing it anymore then sparks up when he drives away.

No chance would my child be getting in the car

VenusDoom · 26/03/2021 19:11

Cant watch them all the time though? Just because he stopped doing it in front of me. Whos to say he wont spark up around the corner

I'm not an expert at all, but wouldn't this be classed as a 'safeguarding issue'? Is his contact with your DD not at risk from this behaviour?

VenusDoom · 26/03/2021 19:27

Am i being reasonable to stop contact between them?

If he's definitely doing this, it's not safe for your DD. As a smoker myself I am the last person to bang on tediously about passive smoking, but the particular environment of a car is so confined, your DD might as well be smoking the fags herself.
