I am at a crossroads career wise thanks to the pandemic and it’s made me think about retraining and where to go from here.

Just wondered what your dream would be if it didn’t matter about cost or time etc - what would you retrain as?

Not sure where the random “I’m” came from there!

A counsellor to help people who are struggling.

I was an FE lecturer but when I retired volunteered at a school in reception. I wish I'd trained to work with little children instead, every day is a new experience, and they are absolutely delightful to be with.

burritofan · 25/03/2021 19:54

Children’s illustration or interiors stylist or garden designer. Something practical like that Grin

queenofthenorthwest · 25/03/2021 19:54

A therapist

SweatyBetty20 · 25/03/2021 19:55

Paramedic. The fees and massive pay cut are putting me off though - I don’t want to go back to £25k pa at 48 when I’m a sole house owner with a mortgage.

Justgivemewine · 25/03/2021 19:56

If money, time and intellect were no problem then I would like to study astrophysics. Particularly supermassive black holes and how they interact with the galaxies that surround them.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/03/2021 20:01

I always wanted to be a hairdresser, but my dps said I was too clever so I went to university instead.

LindaEllen · 25/03/2021 20:02

I've always wanted to be a social worker (preferably working in a children's care home) but my situation just didn't allow for further training after uni.

Xmasbaby11 · 25/03/2021 20:02

Speech and language therapist. My degree is in linguistics and it overlapped with speech therapy. At the end of the degree they all got interesting professional jobs. There is a masters that can be done but I don't think my brain is sciencey enough- this was the aspect of the degree i found hardest.

TheExtraGuineaPig · 25/03/2021 20:06

Master of wine

LadyCatStark · 25/03/2021 20:07

Also a Speech and Language Therapist no question. Plus our area desperately needs some more as they keep going private! There’s no way I could afford the retraining though.

JorisBonson · 25/03/2021 20:08

An interior designer

quarentini · 25/03/2021 20:09

A social worker.

Thirtyrock39 · 25/03/2021 20:10

Nurse without a shadow of a doubt. I'm a healthcare support worker in the nhs and often feel really frustrated that there isn't much progression for me but the nurses have so many opportunities and such a variety of options.
The reason I can't train at the moment is shifts wouldn't work with childcare and the drop in salary would be hard- but maybe in a year or two
(Nursing associate not something my current manager feels is relevant to our team so no option to do it that way)

lboogy · 25/03/2021 20:11

A doctor

dudsville · 25/03/2021 20:12

An astronaut 300 years from now.

Krazynights34 · 25/03/2021 20:14

I used to think medicine but I’m so disillusioned by the NHS and life I’d pick whatever is the most selfish job in the world (no idea what that is)

lookdeepintotheparka · 25/03/2021 20:15

I'd love to work in the fashion/beauty industry.

I actually quite like my job so I'm quite lucky I guess! Sadly I don't get paid enough for all the work I do but that's the reality in my sector.
