I am at a crossroads career wise thanks to the pandemic and it’s made me think about retraining and where to go from here.

Just wondered what your dream would be if it didn’t matter about cost or time etc - what would you retrain as?

I’d love to design rollercoasters.

Something techy like software development. I think that kind of job would really suit me and regret not going down that path but feels a bit late now.

niceupthedance · 25/03/2021 21:24

Something in conservation so I could spend all day counting seals or measuring ferns.

Cocopogo · 25/03/2021 21:24

Social worker

SavingsQuestions · 25/03/2021 21:26

Psychologist or OT. Social worker is actually possible locally but Im not as keen

TrobadoraBeatrice · 25/03/2021 21:26

I'd like to do book binding and restoration. Or maybe midwifery. Alternatively, I would work in nature conservation, but I feel the cold too much to work outdoors!

OnGoldenPond · 25/03/2021 21:29

Archaeologist.

Always loved history and have been doing a lot of study of ancient and classical history recently, would be fabulous to be paid for it!

Sadly, can't see how it would be practical at my age Sad

minipie · 25/03/2021 21:33

Engineer or product designer or architect

Ah well

BrownEyedGirl80 · 25/03/2021 21:39

Make up artist or vet

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 25/03/2021 21:40

Weather presenter, I'd be really good doing the arm extensions right to my finger tips. On the downside though, I am a big lass so Northern Ireland will just have to look out of the window because I'd just block them out completely.

Strokethefurrywall · 25/03/2021 21:41

Hypnotherapist and Doula.

Money not an issue but no time to study!

ChaToilLeam · 25/03/2021 21:45

Paleolinguistics. I love languages and history. So this would be a fabulous field for me.

Failing that, fashion design. I’ve started making my own stuff and am having such fun with it.

BirdyBee · 25/03/2021 21:52

Tattoo artist or midwife

Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 25/03/2021 21:55

I'd really like to be a hairdresser. I know I'd be shit at it tho, as I am with anything vaguely creative

mrshonda · 25/03/2021 21:58

A florist. Working with beautiful flowers all day.

A members club owner!

SnarkyBag · 25/03/2021 22:04

Academic librarian although I only retrained as an OT at 40 so not sure I could be arsed to retrain again!

schnubbins · 25/03/2021 22:05

I am a trained paediatric and general nurse but always wish i had become a midwife.

Thighdentitycrisis · 25/03/2021 22:06

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 25/03/2021 22:09

Vet

iluvpickles · 25/03/2021 22:27

Sports journalist more specifically football. Although I always wanted to be a primary school teacher, although maybe I'd be round the bend with it but the holidays always seemed attractive!

StarsonaString · 25/03/2021 22:52

I like my job and earn well but if I had to retrain:

Funeral Director
Vet
Interior designer
Doula

Jobs I like in theory but know I would really struggle with:
Social worker (hours, stress, responsibility, chance of high profile fuck ups).
Midwife (same as social worker).
Archaeologist (fucks your knees).
Academia (pressure, bitchy culture).
Farmer (far too much like hard work).
