Call me old fashioned ...

But what are all these young people doing, walking along the street with bud earphones in talking to themselves? Who are they talking to? And what are they saying? Can't they put their phone to their ear like a normal person? Or just wait til they get home to have a conversation? Hopefully a kind (!) Mumsnetter will help me out on this one as I'm stumped.

They're just on the phone.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 25/03/2021 17:13

OLD FASHIONED

BatFacedGrrll · 25/03/2021 17:13

Huh? You walk along and you're on the phone. Via your air pods or whatever

#okboomer 😂

FoonySpucker · 25/03/2021 17:14

I'm stumped

Really?
You can't imagine what they are doing?
As @Roszie says, they are on the phone.
How would we know who they are talking to or what they are saying?

Dizzywizz · 25/03/2021 17:14

They’re on the phone, but listening via the wireless ear buds

ParkheadParadise · 25/03/2021 17:15

I was in a shop with my niece. The guy behind the counter started talking to us, I answered him back and asked him a question. My niece started laughing and went outside.
Turns out he had earphones in and wasn't talking to me. He was looking at ME as if I was the weird one.
We did laugh about it all the way home.

minty133 · 25/03/2021 17:19

I've just walked past an OLD person doing this! I am such a boomer, the PP and my eldest DS are right Blush

@minty133 happens to us all at some point Grin

dudsville · 25/03/2021 17:28

You've actually just landed haven't you?!

minty133 · 25/03/2021 17:41

Yeah I've got my own planet

I find it hard sometimes to know if they are speaking to me or not. They do this at the reception I work and I assume they are talking to someone else then they get annoyed because I don't answer them!

CushionMountain · 25/03/2021 18:06

It's safer not to have your phone to your ear in some places as there are gangs going around snatching them. Much better to keep it safely in a pocket.

Bargebill19 · 25/03/2021 18:08

“Move along grandma - nothing for you here”

Is what Dh would have said to me, ......

queenofthenorthwest · 25/03/2021 18:22

I didn't like them but my DH bought me a pair and I used them because I felt ungrateful.

They are actually handy when walking the dog as I can have my hands free.

HollowTalk · 25/03/2021 18:29

I always think they look mad, just walking down the road talking to themselves.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 25/03/2021 18:39

I must be an old biddy too as I also find it really weird and think people look a bit mad doing this.

Sniv · 25/03/2021 18:46

Why would you want to hold your phone to your ear when you don't have to?

Using earbuds, you can walk along with both hands free, you won't drop your phone, it's easier to hear through earbuds, etc.

UCOinaUCG · 25/03/2021 18:51

I'm old and use my earphones to call my DM while I am walking the dog. Loads of people do this. Why do you care?

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 25/03/2021 18:54

I’m old. Bloody love my ear pods. Use them every single call.

PrettyGuyforaWhiteFly · 25/03/2021 18:59

I never make or take a call without my buds.

So much easier

But I should say I suffer with an issue in both shoulders so handfree is the only way I can manage to speak Grin
