Do you calorie count and why?

Just curious really. Do you count calories?

I tracked my calories for a month or two a few years back out of curiosity. I don't now, I do a lot more home cooking and I think it would take me ages! Generally I stick to a philosophy of eat when I'm hungry, until I'm full. I'll tend to eat something if I'm craving it (although I guess it helps that I generally crave healthier things!) This is in reason of course, if I craved a big dominoes pizza every night I wouldn't eat a big dominoes pizza every night mainly because there's not a dominoes for miles

I've seen some say they count calories for a while until they get a general idea how many calories are in each food, then they guess.

Just curious for other's opinions and insights

Re. Fitbit, my current Charge 4 seems to tally really well with my calorie counting calories - both average a bit over 2000 Kcal per day. I would say it's not really the exact number that matters. If you're gaining weight you're eating more than you're using and vice versa, and can adjust accordingly.

I've just started counting (again) to lose weight - I'm 48, menopausal, and have 4 stone to lose. I've lost weight before through calorie counting (younger and not menopausal).

Week 1, averaged 1200 net cals per day, lost 4lbs.

Week 2, averaged 1200 net cals per day with exercise, put 1 lb back on.

So tediously predictable.

4lbs in one week is a lot, your 2 week average is still great

I do 1200 a day, but I'm not religious about it. I don't count milk in tea or weigh salad leaves etc. I'm 5'5 and 9st7

jelly79 · 27/03/2021 10:31

I do. I am 5'5'' and weigh 9s 11lb I exercise daily and found myself eating what I wanted because of that.
I do it to keep some control - I'm not religious with it and estimate at the weekend
Helps me make better choices

I’m 5’2” so my TDEE is small - according to Fitbit I burn an average of 2200 a day (this includes exercise every day - running 5k or a long walk). I eat 1500 a day or less. In theory this should result in a 1lb a week or more but I tend to lose around 1/2 a lb a week eating like this.

I’ve already made peace with never being a healthy weight. If I can settle somewhere in the a bit overweight band I’ll take it. I’m not prepared to eat 1000 calories a day, I’d rather be chubby.
