Sat in breast clinic. It's not going well.

I have had examination and ultrasound. Now I need a biopsy. Consultant saying that he thinks it's fibrocystic changes. But then why does it need a biopsy? I have tried asking but not sure I understood the answer. My appointment was at a private clinic and I am going back through the NHS for biopsy for cost reasons so if won't be done today.

How long after biopsy does it take to get results? They said they would see me again in a few weeks. Just wondering if it would be sooner if something concerning is found?

Mine took about two weeks but that was a few years ago.

It is absolutely standard to biopsy a lump at breast clinic-it really doesn’t mean they’ve suspect anything untoward is going on.

I hope you get good news quickly. Flowers

Hi OP I was in the same position a few months ago. Found a lump, was referred and had an ultrasound. Fully expected to be told it was a cyst and all fine but they actually found a lump on the other side and did a same day biopsy. I was beside myself. It took 10 days for the results even though I had gone private and results were expected within 4 days. One thing they did say was if lymph nodes looked normal on the ultrasound they were less concerned.
I hope you get some reassurance from the results.

I had similar experience after a mamogramme . I was recalled for ultrasound , then recalled again for biopsie then recalled again for a further biopsie. What I found hard was I couldn't read the non verbal communication or get the tone of what people were saying. I was taken to a mc millan nurse at one point and so I really couldn't work out what was going on. Anyway mostly all fine in the end with yearly check ups. I understand they have to be neutral in communication but it felt very surreal .

@Sukisukisukiz

They said 2 weeks, but called me after 8 days.

I had to have one (shitting myself) but turned out to be a cyst. I reckon it was cos I used to put my ipod in my bra! The doctor confirmed that could have been it - not only dirt getting in but the heat I guess. Still very lumpy and can feel it sometimes but it is ok.. Hopefully yours will just be a cyst or something!

OP, i haven't read all the replies, but they almost always do a biopsy, if only to confirm their opinion that something is benign. They obviously don't want to be responsible for having got something wrong. Twice I've had biopsies for lumps and bumps in my breasts. They do it to be on the safe side. It's good the doctor already thinks it's nothing to worry about.
