Q for parents who want to defer school start

I am seeing a lot of posts on my local FB asking feedback about deferring school entry for their summer born DC. Most people answer saying they did it and how it was the right choice.
My question is: what do the DC think about it? Not when they are 5-6 but when they are 12+ and even as adults?

My DC were born in March so doesn't apply. However I skipped Y1 due to a move between different countries / different curriculums so I have always been the youngest in my class but I don't believe it impacted my school life, really.

The older I became the more I felt I had basically 'gained' a year in the sense that I was able to start my adult life one year earlier than everybody, I could have taken a year to travel for example and still be at the same stage than other people my age etc.

This makes me think I would resent my parents if they made the choice to defer when I was 5! Basically staling away a year from me.
So, if you have started school one year later what do you think about it now? Or if you have teens DC, what is their feedback?

I think it's quite rare and you've only been able to defer recently!

Very common in Scotland and rarely remarked on, until you get to 17/18 and can drink legally before all the rest of your pals Grin
