"My name means" - a man one...

What would you think if you were talking to someone online (dating site) and you asked what his name is and he told you it and then gave you a description of what the name means (like on baby name websites) and said he thinks it's a nice name.

This happened a while back but I was just thinking it's a bit strange? His name is quite a common one, not foreign or unusual but not popular these days. So kinda like saying he's called David and it means "beloved". His name isn't David but it's a well known name, various famous people have the name and I went to school with a guy with the same name and worked with one too. I never told him what my name means, just what it is.

At first I'd wondered if it wasn't really his name and he'd made it up but I did some googling later and he was who he said he was. I just thought it was a little strange! He was a bit quirky, I didn't meet him but was intrigued.

He sounds as though he thinks he's very special!

Surely it's just small talk.

Sounds like he was using it as a conversation starter. Online chatting is sometimes quite awkward and it’s a way of getting a chat going isn’t it - what your name means, whether there’s any significance to it, what you might have been called if you were a boy...these are all general, safe topics of early dating chat.

I wouldn't really give it a second thought. Ok maybe a bit quirky as you say but nothing more than that. It's probably one of those things that seems quite normal/conversational to say whilst chatting face to face, and seems more odd written down, if you see what I mean.

That's funny because "special" was one of the meanings he gave! He was a writer so maybe that's part of the reason. He seemed keen to Impress me, talking about the brand's of clothes he wears etc and seemed confident. But he had some hang ups too (hiding receding hairline in pics). I kinda wish I'd told him I knew and didn't care about that. Ah, men.

A bit odd, but no more so than someone who talks about their star sign. I wouldn’t have read anything in particular into it.
