What do I want for my birthday?

OverTheHill50 · 24/03/2021 12:42

Coming up soon, and DH and young adult DCs want me to give them a 'wishlist' .

Help! I have NO idea.
I don't really NEED anything. I'm fortunate that when I want books/clothes etc I can afford to buy them.

Has anyone received the perfect 'gift they didn't know they needed' recently?

I dont think anyone can give sensible answers to this without knowing a bit more about you....

54321GoGoGo · 24/03/2021 12:58

This was me. Like many I celebrated a milestone bday recently. I honestly feel I own everything I need.

Ask for experiences, days out /theatre / concert/ Beach day/ New Outfit etc

Obviously once we are allowed to do those things again.......
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday 🎂

Air pods. DH got me airpods for my last birthday, never thought I’d want them but they are great and I use them all the time!

Atalune · 24/03/2021 13:13

Wicker vegetable trug
Gardening clogs
A rare edition of a book you love

lurker101 · 24/03/2021 13:16

Subscription service from an independent bookshop? I bought one from Daunt books and it went down really well and spreads your celebration throughout the year! You can specify what genre you like/what you’ve read and each month they send you a new book

This would've been a great shout, except that I got some for Christmas! Agree, they're fab - use them all the time.

I really want flying lessons.

Any random things you want to try?

SomethingAboutNothing · 24/03/2021 13:26

I started collecting a particular type of pottery, means there is a ready made wish list for every birthday/Christmas. Anything like this you would like?

WisestIsShe · 24/03/2021 13:28

Anything from the literary gift company?

tabulahrasa · 24/03/2021 13:31

Best presents I’ve ever had...

A heated bodywarmer
A heated throw
One of those giant fleece hoody things

Not helpful if you’re not cold though, lol

Um... random things I want but can’t justify buying just now, so would be pretty happy to get as presents

A rowan tree
A wee cheapy Bluetooth speaker (I have fancier Wi-Fi ones and they are a pita)
Afternoon tea delivered - I feel it’s weird to just order one for no reason
A fancy ass chopping board

katy1213 · 24/03/2021 13:32

I'd like a Slightly Foxed subscription. Or flower/cheese deliveries. But I'd much sooner be taken out to dinner somewhere nice when that's possible.

quarentini · 24/03/2021 13:35

A first edition of a particular book
A calligraphy set
A piece of jewellery

Hmm - maybe a creative writing course . . .

I’m heading towards 40. If my birthday was the right time of year I’d ask for a day out with my family at a local attraction for my gift.

Starisnotanumber · 24/03/2021 13:52

Walking poles leki are a good brand.
Summer walking sandals

BitchIAmFromChicago · 24/03/2021 13:56

Sunglasses, Neom electric diffuser, Ooni pizza oven?

TankGirl97 · 24/03/2021 14:02

Willow weaving course,
Pottery course,
Ornamental structures for the garden,
A yellow magnolia tree,
A veggie trug,
A greenhouse.
(Can you tell I also have a big birthday coming up 🤣).

silverbubbles · 24/03/2021 14:03

a radio to take in the garden with you
garden chair of your dreams
smart warm wellies or outdoor boots which you might love but never treat yourself to.

CarrieMoonbeams · 24/03/2021 14:04

Dubarry boots? Barbour jacket? (obviously depends on budget!).

Failing that, something pretty like a magnolia in a pot, or a lovely honeysuckle - smells beautiful if you're sitting outside on a sunny evening.

Or is there a favourite book listed on spinelessclassics.com? (sorry, can't do links!). I've got my eye on the Macbeth one for DH's birthday.

Finally, how about a print from angelaharding.co.uk? Quite expensive though (about £250) so again it depends on the budget.

Walking boots/ shoes
Running trainers
Waterproof/ warm jacket for walks
New purse or handbag
Print
Bracelet
Robe

Darklane · 24/03/2021 15:09

Subscription to a gardening magazine, they often include free packets of seeds through spring & summer.
Decent cold frames. I have ones from a greenhouse firm, aluminium with raisable lids, infinitely useful.
A special tree or flowering shrub eg magnolia, fig, citrus, a cherry tree that fruits do you don’t just get the blossom like ornamental ones.
Would you consider a beehive? Along with a beekeeping course from a society?
A trio of ducks, best slug deterrent ever.

soontobeamama · 24/03/2021 16:45

My mum got me a flower subscription gift for my birthday - I get a bouquet of flowers delivered every month - such a lovely gift - it feels like a real treat when it arrives as I don't normally buy myself flowers and I really enjoy arranging them - I often have too many to fit into one vase. It is from Arena flowers, they also do weekly / fortnightly subscriptions, would definitely recommend it.
