Do you wriggle to fall asleep?

I know this is random but I'm about to fall asleep and I'm suddenly wondering if I'm a weirdo. Do you wriggle your body when falling asleep? I literally can't go to sleep unless I'm moving somehow, usually shaking a foot or rocking side to side or something - very annoying, I'm sure Grin

Anyone else like this? It's actually more comfortable for me to fidget than it is to stay still, if I was still I don't think I'd be able to fall asleep, I've always done it as long as I can remember!

Do you have a lot of sugar before bed? I was wondering if that was the reason. Or you just like tap dancing in bed.

RefuseTheLies · 24/03/2021 00:22

I rub my feet together.

maybelou · 24/03/2021 00:27

Not really! Maybe a couple of biscuits Grin Hours ago though. It's just how I get comfortable, I can't imagine feeling comfortable while lying still??

Not me but DP does. He’s done it since he was a child. He rubs the ball of one foot in the arch of the other. He finds it relaxing and soothing. He does it when he’s going to sleep or if he’s just sat chilled.

youmakemydreamscometrue · 24/03/2021 00:28

I lie like I've been laid out in a morgue Grin has to be pitch black and absolute silence for me to fall asleep.
DH is a twitcher, usually he sort of rocks a bit which makes me feel like I'm on a boat. tonight he's impersonating a train

rainbowninja · 24/03/2021 00:30

Became aware while I was reading this that I was rubbing my feet, didn't know I did it! So satisfying 😂

IdblowJonSnow · 24/03/2021 00:32

Came on to see if this wriggling was a euphemism. Disappointed.

Treeway · 24/03/2021 00:37

Dh does and it drives me nuts! I lay down on my stomach and basically don't move until morning, like a log! Grin

SionnachGlic · 24/03/2021 00:40

I lie on tummy & wriggle/shake my right foot...it is just a comfort thing. My DS does exactly the same thing..

MissingTheMoonlight · 24/03/2021 00:41

Nope, I need to be still.
I wonder if this is how you self soothed as a baby/toddler and it had carried on?

thisyearsuckssofar · 24/03/2021 00:45

I do. Not always, but when I'm struggling to sleep. I rock from side to side, my head moves and everything. It's an odd quirck and embarrassing but my DH is used to it. My mum says I did it as a baby.

VettiyaIruken · 24/03/2021 00:46

I've got restless legs and have a quite painful overwhelming compulsion to shake my legs about at night. Arms too sometimes.

NiceGerbil · 24/03/2021 00:50

I rotate my ankles iyswim

Since I was a child.

therocinante · 24/03/2021 00:56

I swish my feet back and forth, so does my DH!

HemanOrSheRa · 24/03/2021 01:24

I rub my right foot on the mattress/bottom sheet. Drives DP up the wall Grin. DS does it too.

Ironmanrocks · 24/03/2021 01:45

I rock. I sleep on my side and move my hips back and forth sometimes quite violently. 😳 it drives my oh mad. I do it in bed, also do it to my legs whilst watching tv. I thought I was the only one! It's definitely a comfort thing.

avamiah · 24/03/2021 02:38

I like to move one of my feet side to side .
Lol, that sounds mad doesn’t it.
Hahaha

hahaohno · 24/03/2021 03:06

@VettiyaIruken try magnesium

I lie very still. I need the room cold, dark and quiet. I wish I was in bed now.

sashh · 24/03/2021 03:44

I rub my feet together.

Me too, and lots of people in my family do.

OverByYer · 24/03/2021 03:52

I rub my feet together too

Myshitisreal · 24/03/2021 04:01

It's a self soothing thing
