Census knocker, Birmingham, real or fake?

DM today says someone knocked on her door claiming to be from the census. She posted it on Sunday so she told the person that and didn't engage. Considering it can't have arrived at any offices before today at the earliest, it seems ridiculous for the actual census officers to be going to people's houses today, so was this person actually a scammer?

The door knockers should be wearing purple and yellow high vis branded jackets. Should be pretty eye catching!

Seems a bit early

They're only doing the knockers' inductions this week

Pearbear · 23/03/2021 19:34

They should have an ID badge to check. Any genuine door to door person will have checkable ID

FlashBathroom · 23/03/2021 19:36

There were some out on my street today

roses2 · 23/03/2021 19:50

I saw some in my area today too wearing the purple jackets.

saraclara · 23/03/2021 19:52

They'll be knocking at the doors of those who didn't do it online by Sunday, and offering to collect the paper ones. So yes, they already know who hasn't done it online.

saraclara · 23/03/2021 19:55

OP they're not there to pester people who haven't sent in their paper ones. They're there to pick up the paper ones, and to encourage those who don't have them done yet, to complete them.

Waiting a week for posted ones to arrive just delays things and makes it more likely that people will forget or lose their forms. So they're out already

I'm in the 3rd tranch of census officers - got all my kit today and starting at the weekend. I'm informed that team members are already out on the streets.

murbblurb · 23/03/2021 20:01

did it last time and even then we were trained to hold out our ID badge as soon as the door was opened. Might be a bit harder this time with social distancing, but if they are giving out suitable jackets the right people will be obvious.

I remember the panic when I dropped my badge as we absolutely could not work without it. Fortunately I found it quickly!

safariboot · 23/03/2021 20:03

It seems like they probably were legitimate then. But it's pushy at best.

They are knocking on doors today as I know someone has started today. She was wearing a purple and yellow bib, ID and had the mobile device with her.
My db filled in dms census via the internet otherwise it would’ve been a paper one that would take up time.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/03/2021 20:12

They're coming round for multiple reasons - I looked them up earlier as I thought it was weird

We had one round earlier even though we've filled ours in online on Sunday

Amorousfrog · 23/03/2021 20:25

The job ads said you had to start working from Sunday 21st

It's not pushy. They just need to get the results in over a short period of time, and them calling saves people the effort of getting to a postbox etc. There are lots of older people who will appreciate being called on.

Yes, some people might need a prod to fill it in, but they're also trying to make it easier for people.

The first day that the Census team were knocking on doors to remind people was Tues 23rd. All will be wearing Census branded his vis jackets and wearing an official ID card with their name and photograph.
