Im in the middle of a social sciences access course with the future goal being to train as a social worker. during this course, i have learnt a lot about child development and mental health etc..
Now i suspected beforehand that my son may have ADHD.. learning all this new information has just made me think it even more.
i have spoken to his head teach at school about it and all she said was i have experience working with kids that have adhd and i don't think he has it. now although i appreciate she may have experience every child is different and just because he does check some of the boxes she thinks points to adhd doesn't mean he does have it. Also, she is not his main teacher, she may see him a few hours a week. so i don't think she spends enough time with him to make a judgement personally. so, here are the things that i think are pointing towards it.
Interupting
Emotional turmoil - outburts of anger/rage over very small things
Has problems playing quietly
Fidgeting - cannot sit/stand still when being spoken to or doing a task which requires him to be still - excessive fidgeting and talking
Has sensory "issues" Clothing has to be a certain way, seams of clothing irritate him, shoes have to be very tight or he wont wear them.
Poor self image/low self esteem.
Impulsive - hyper. I have noticed that his hyperactivity/impulsiveness can irritate his friends, and he is constantly saying that people
dont want to play with him.
Lots of enegry all the time!!
He is 7 in April, and i strongly think that his dad has it too.
Any advice or thoughts on the situation would be gratefully received..
