Police in tube station

Was planning to go into work today (one day a week) to mix it up a bit but friend told me there were police in one of the west London tube stations this morning, checking that journeys were essential. Anyone know why this may be?! Appreciate it’s a pandemic but had thought things were easing

I feel for you

I've never been checked on but a couple of neighbours have

Best advice is know your rights. The police don't seem to be well informed about the law.

With work, I'm ready to show an email saying I've been asked to go in - rare

With caring, both mum's GP and my GP know that I do her care

But I appreciate it must be horrible to be asked, it stresses me out every time I get on.

Because currently there is still a national lockdown in place and the guidance is not to leave your house unless necessary?

OP I wonder if you went

Btw I read that book as a child too!

You are allowed to go to work. DH works on a military base and has been driving in every day. Although it would be interesting if some plod decided to stop him and rang the base to inform the captain of why DH would not be in.

Just say you're going to work? How are they going to check that anyway?

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 23/03/2021 13:27

I'm glad to read that the BTP are making checks. Just be prepared to say where you work, seems reasonable.

OP do you really need to go in the office?

Plexie · 23/03/2021 13:30

"You can only leave home for work purposes where it is unreasonable for you to do your job from home. This includes, but is not limited to, people who work within critical national infrastructure, construction or manufacturing that require in-person attendance"

www.gov.uk/guidance/national-lockdown-stay-at-home#march-whats-changed

So yeah, going into work "to mix it up a bit" isn't currently allowed.

This has been happening throughout the pandemic. I had a letter from work confirming it was essential to go to work (really wasn't, but they were being arseholes), and have been asked for copies of medical appointments too - definitely not been every time I have used the tube.

Military but now working in NHS ex has letters and ID cards - he's been asked as well.

Last week the tube was bloody nuts - I went in a week apart and it went from empty tube to totally rammed tube so I suspect they are cracking down. Kids back to school means a lot of parents are being forced back to the office uncessarily
