Bright ideas needed how to save water running from taps for aaaages before hot eventually arrives

This is especially bad first thing in the morning, it seems pipes go round the house for quote a distance
The only thing I can think of is to catch the water in the bucket to flush the loo occasionally, but maybe there are better ideas?..

I fill my water filter jug, cat water bowl and a watering can in summer if I'm I'm organised enough but mostly it just goes down the drain. I'd love some better ideas.

Terrible waste as of course it's metered.
Plus I swear more of it goes down the drain before being used than actually used once warmed up.

Watering can is a good start and looks better than a bucket
