Have you ever met your double?

Junipersky · 23/03/2021 07:47

They say everyone has one, but I've never met mine.
I imagine it must be a strange experience.

I have however seen lots of doubles of people I know. Some of them are uncanny!

At university I had lots of friends swear they'd seen me in places I knew I'd never been.

I never met her myself but it all abruptly stopped in my final year so I assume my doppelganger was probably a year ahead of me.

RaininSummer · 23/03/2021 07:56

Not my own but there used to be a young couple locally who looked very much like my daughter and her then boyfriend, now husband. Used to really throw me as I knew they were at work 25 miles away.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 23/03/2021 07:58

No but my husband has seen mine a couple of times and the guy at Costa was very confused when I was there twice within an hour but with different colour hair. So I know I have a double in the same city I live in.

notacooldad · 23/03/2021 08:03

I had o e in the town I used to live in. People would say they had seen me in different places.
One afternoon in a local pub a bloke walked in and said ' blimey you've had a quick change ( of clothes) I had to convince him it wasn't me he had seen on the high street.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 23/03/2021 08:08

No, but other people have. Was waiting for DH at the end of parkrun and someone shouted out a name, came bounding up to me and.... I had no idea who they were and they were perplexed that I actually wasn't their friend.

muckyhoover · 23/03/2021 08:09

When I was in my teens I had a part time job in a local shop and worked with another girl who looked a lot like me. Which was particularly unusual because we had quite an unusual look (hair colour, height, eye colour, clothing style etc).

I didn't know her well but I suspect she was a bit less straight laced than me because on a number of occasions customers had a moan at me for behaviour outside work that I definitely didn't do (swearing/hanging about in a group and blocking the footpath/graffiti/littering/bunking off school etc). I did once try to explain that it was not me but another colleague who looked just like me- but understandably my accuser thought it was a (rather unconvincing) lie.

Capital76 · 23/03/2021 08:12

Strangely yes!
My best friends brother moved to New Zealand- met a woman and startedba relationship- brought her back to UK where we had a night out. It was like uncanny

Same hair style and colour same heart shaped face same eye shape and colour same size/figure
After some conversation found out her parents had moved to NZ from ireland- my family are also irish- so general geographical factors probably at play!

Then around 3 years later that couple came back to the uk for best friends wedding
A child in our company looked at us both and said "why do you look the same!" We just laughed. I dont know if she also thought we looked the same neither of us acknowledged it out loud anyway

Deathraystare · 23/03/2021 08:15

Not met exactly. I saw her crossing the road. Same build. Looked very like me. Same pissed off expression when crossing a road! I was on a bus at the time.

boobot1 · 23/03/2021 08:16

I read an article online and there was a small picture of the journalist in the corner. She was my absolute double even had the same mole above the lip, really strange.

Roszie · 23/03/2021 08:22

I had a dream once I was called x and I was on stage getting an award. I woke up and googled the name as it was quite unusual.

I found their Facebook profile and she was my double, but lives in the USA. Even has the same amount of kids/gender/ages. Was well spooky.

DH still calls me the name sometimes Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 23/03/2021 08:59

Not exactly , but DH came across a picture on Zoom church of Mary (I think) kissing Jesus feet as he hung on the cross.

Aside from the fact I don't wear a head scarf the picture could genuinely have been a portrait of me. I found it oddly unsettling TBH!

Meruem · 23/03/2021 09:23

I did once. Prior to seeing her a few people had mentioned they’d seen me in places I hadn’t been in and I thought it was a bit weird. This particular day I’d been shopping in town and went to the bus stop. A woman was standing there and when she turned around it was like looking in a mirror! I was stunned. What was even weirder was that I was wearing a distinctive logo t shirt, and she was wearing the same t shirt! I wanted to speak to her but what do you say? Never saw her again and I moved from that town a year or so later.

GingerFreaker · 23/03/2021 09:40

Not of me, but my kids and I saw my brother's double on a train, even down to the same clothing choice.

He'd died a few months before, so it was a fair bit upsetting for us.

VeganVeal · 23/03/2021 11:04

I saw mine in the bathroom of a show house, I called my husband to show him and HIS double was there too. What the chances of that, do I win a prize?

garlictwist · 23/03/2021 11:36

I was watching Escape to the Country when my friend's other half appeared as someone living in Devon doing beach cleans. Obviously it wasn't him but I took a photo of the screen and sent it to him as it was just like his identical twin. Weird.

MedusasBadHairDay · 23/03/2021 11:39

No, I used to have a double when I was in my early twenties. Confusingly she had the same name as me, and a similar style.

I sometimes wonder if we still look the same.

Postprandial · 23/03/2021 11:44

Mine used to be in a soap opera years back, so I occasionally had taxi drivers etc thinking I was her. I think that other than similar colouring, the main resemblance was a very similar style of resting bitch face, which you saw a lot of on the soap, because her character was somewhat confrontational. I definitely looked more like her when I was grumpy. Grin

ThePlantsitter · 23/03/2021 11:45

I was at middle school with mine. People commented on it all the time and we constantly denied it but one day we had a private conversation where she said, 'i do look like you don't I?' and I said, 'yes'. We never mentioned it again, and then she moved away.

My dad is/was a bit of a player so I've often wondered if she was a secret sister tbh.

HurryUpBetelgeuse · 26/04/2021 12:18

A girl on the front of a children's book was my double, down to the mole on her face - except I think her eyes were purple.
I don't remember the name of the book and I never read it. I regularly spent time in the library and used to place it prominently to see if anyone passing by would notice. I don't think they did.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/04/2021 12:29

No but when DS was a toddler he was out with DH and shouted mummy to a random woman who looked like me 🥸

Chatanooga1 · 26/04/2021 12:30

Yes.

Unfortunately or fortunately I suppose, she was an Afghan Hound.

ArianaVenti · 26/04/2021 12:42

Yes, she was coming out of a job interview as i was about to go in. We both did a double-take, it was freaky. I got the job though Wink Grin

amusedbush · 26/04/2021 13:28

I’ve never met one but several people have bumped into my doppelgängers.

Years ago my granny phoned to ask why I’d ignored her on the bus (in the immortal words of Shaggy: it wasn’t me!)

My mum actually asked tapped a woman on the shoulder and asked ‘me’ what I was doing at her work Blush

DH says there is a woman living around here who is the absolute spit of me. Height, weight, hairstyle, glasses, make up, clothes. He has seen her a couple of times and had to do a double take.

gildalily · 26/04/2021 13:57

When I was younger people used to often say 'I saw you at X or Y and you didn't say hello' and I was always puzzled as I hadn't been there! Then, one day, I was sitting at a set of traffic lights and I looked across at a woman with my hair, glasses and brown leather jacket and driving a red micra and for one weird millisecond my brain told me I was looking at myself in the mirror. It was uncanny but I at least knew who it was who was ignoring my friends all over Herts!

Nicolastuffedone · 26/04/2021 14:14

I watched a comedy show on youtube that had been filmed in Glasgow (Dorothy Paul for Scottish people!) and a lady in the audience was my exact double! So much so, I wondered if I’d been there!!
